    Question Got same price on GTX 770 and r9 280x! Which one more practical?

    Hey guys, it's been awhile I have posted here. Lots of things have changed since I started buying my build, so my goal to get a gtx 770 from bd for a 35k price tag not possible at this moment, but I just got a deal from my cousin from Dubai, who can get me gtx 770 from there at a discounted price as same as r9 280x from BD (tk 28k that is).

    My questions are;

    1. Is warranty/resale value an issue if I go for GTX 770 from Dubai?
    2. My PSU is thermaltake 650w 80+ gold, considering r9 280x heavy load on PSU, should I opt for the GTX 770 for lesser power?
    3. I have an eye on another one that is asus r9 280 which is 23k taka in BD and provide more or less same performance as the gtx 770 while gaming in 1080p. But it has a TDP of 250w which to my discern might be an issue considering my 650w PSU. Or it is not?

    I am now in dilemma here. pls share your thoughts, and any practical experience based comment will be much appreciated, and pls NO 'wait a few more days and buy a better gpu next to these' type comments.

    Thanks in advance!

    PS: As a single monitor 1080p gamer, i am happy with hassle free decent gaming with decent settings and I could care less about 'maxxed out' settings, marginal FPS increase and whatnot.

    Depends on your luck, I got most of my gpus from abroad and thanks to almighty that all of them functioned properly. Most of the cases you will get better product than that of bd. Also most of the gpus came from abroad i heard about functioned without any problem.
    if the gtx 770 is 4gb, then i would take it as nvidia has better driver support(as far as um concerned) and u can easily sli later down the road and sli is way more better than cfx
    Warranty will be a problem if you have don't have constant access to someone in dubai to claim your warranty. And nobody can't tell the resell value of your gpu. You may get lucky and sell your gpu without warranty at a greater rate than that of anyone who will have bought it from bd and have warranty. But foreign pc products tend to last longer than that of bd unless you kill it by yourself.
    Best of luck

    But again why waste money on this gen whereas dx 12 gpus are few more days to arrive?

    real 650w should easily handle all of these gpus. But i like less power eating gpus personally.
    If u are confused about performance level, then here is a rough idea.
    GTX680 =~ GTX770 =~ HD7970ghz edition =~ R9 280X
    GTX670 =~ GTX 760 =~ HD7950Boost =~ R9 280

    Now, if u can wait, then wait. Next generation cards are just about to release , making a price drop worldwide.

    The R9 280X got 3GB (384bit mem interface) the GTX 770 is usually 2GB (256bit mem interface). Performance wise both are same on average.

    I would tend to go for the 3GB 280X. Recent games at full graphics come very close to using the 2GB ram and a few upcoming games would require a little more than 2GB.

    and 280X got DX 11.2 support while GTX 770 "Kepler supports 11.1 features with 11_0 feature level through the DirectX 11.1 API ,however Nvidia did not enable four non-gaming features in Hardware in Kepler (for 11_1)"

    And BTW both 280X and GTX770 will support DX12.

    don't get me wrong bro, i cud not find that much of data on r9 280, had compare with 280x then compared again with the 770, and as i said 1080p single monitor gaming is far less fps difference between these cards, not worthwhile for me to get all those high end graphics card. nevertheless, will be researching more on next gen gpu for now.

    If you ask me its better to wait a bit. Let the newer cards roll out and the older ones will have significant price drops. The R9 290X can now be bought for $450, so it possible the 280X will have price cuts as well.

    My suggestion would be to wait until 900 series comes out and buy 960 which will be roughly the same as 770 performance(rumoured but kind of confirmed) and stay away from 280x altogether. Just search issues with r9 280x and you will be baffled with how much of a crap card it is.

    according to those tech bloggers....my thought is Nvidia going to pull another GTX680 stunt, cheap cards released overpriced, then bring the big guns (read "single" 4k gaming graphics card) out five months later, so, 4k gaming on a single graphics card is still another generation away...with gtx 1000 series or whatever.

    if the gtx 770 is 4gb, then i would take it as nvidia has better driver support(as far as um concerned) and u can easily sli later down the road and sli is way more better than cfx

    - - - Updated - - -

    But again why waste money on this gen whereas dx 12 gpus are few more days to arrive?
    This is wrong
    1)Sli is way more better than Crossfire ?
    No
    2) nvidia has better driver support...so that means AMD got not so good driver support ?
    No

    i get 100% scaling with 290x CFX in most games so ur point on that is false.
    i have been using 14.7 Beta drivers since 2.5 months now and its performing flawlessly so your point on Nvidia having better driver support is false too.Those days are long gone when AMD used to release crap divers

    @ OP
    R9 280X has more VRAM but generally the GTX 770 is slightly faster when both are at stock clocks. When both are overclocked they trade blow/perform same based on the sample and how well it overclocks.
    I would personally go for the R9 280X mainly because of the extra VRAM which might be needed in the future.

    but then again 280x has a power hungry stomach, and i personally am opt for lesser power consuming GPUs so, yeah, AMD is not the best at this segment.

    Partial support
    DX12 cards will still be needed for full DX12 support
    BUT Microsoft Hints they will try to imitate AMD Mantle....so that means AMD R9 cards will get full DX12 support ?
    Time will say....if it does another perk to AMD
