    Question Various windows 8.1 issues.

I have upgraded to windows 8.1x64 from windows 7x64.Had no intention to do so,but my hdd failed. So i thought i'd upgrade.
But there are so many problems I am currently facing.

1.UAC-User access control is really annoying.I have it o "Always notify" but sometimes it reverts back to "Never notify" on its own.As a result apps, music,VLC media player or any video file does not open.So i have to change the settings and restart all the time. Why does it revert back on its own? What tweak should it do?

2.FIFA 14 and Setup files error:- I have downloaded FIFA 14 repack edition via torrent. The rip is currently highest seeded on kicka$$ torrents. There are no negative comments about it either.I downloaded it and played it for 1-2 days. But suddenly it wasn't starting anymore.I click and nothing happens.I always run fifa on compatibility for win7 and as admin.I deleted that and tried to setup from the previously downloaded file. But it was also not starting.the setup file says "Files are corrupted.please obtain a new copy." I deleted all and again downloaded and installed fifa.Like the same way it was before, after installation and some days of play, fifa wasn't opening and setup was corrupted.I had pes14 downloaded, but pes14 game was ok but setup file returns the same error.I also have the game named "The Forest downloaded and its setup file is also corrupted.NOT ALL setup files are corrupted. Some are.I mean most are.The game folders and files are on the whiteList of windows defender and MBAM. (applied 3dm v5 crack,no luck)

    3.VIRUS:- I previously posted a thread about "autorun.inf" virus.I tried as I was instructed.Used commandA
What are the settings on win8.1 that should have on/off to play cracked games properly?any tweaks?I recently installed THIEF from disc and no error.Works fine,All other games like CS 1.6,BF4,AC:-Brotherhood,liberation HD,pes14 works fine Alahmdulillah.

Any fix will be most appreciated.Sorry for the long post.

Using windows 8 and 8.1 since they came out. Never faced any of this....well maybe fifa bug but I don't play fifa. By the look of the UAC bug you have mentioned you must have gotten a serious type of virus. I'd do a fresh setup and scan the rest of the hard drive with a good antivirus ASAP.

And whenever I've found any of my files corrupted on the HDD (happened only twice in my lifetime), I usually do a thorough test of my RAMs with memtest of maybe windows memory diagnostics and find that I have at least one stick damaged.

I just ran windows memory diagnostics tool.no memory problem found alhamdulillah.

Anyone knows about the fifa 14 error?
I really would really love if there's a way to eradicate the virus without going through another windows setup!

that is strange. I also upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 recently and found no problem whatsoever. maybe you should get another copy of Windows 8.1 then. the only thing i noticed is that my gpu temp got increased by 1-2 degrees.

What reboot bug? There was a buggy Windows update released about a month ago, but I don't think that had anything to do with rebooting.

never faced any bug, using 8.1 since launch. Everyone should use an untouched hash matched iso, rather than those preactivated/bla bla ones.

I've it set up as "Never Notify". As a result everything opens without the annoying popup.
I've norton 360 installed and I know what I install on my system. So I'm not much concerned about the secuirity UAC provides.

autorun.inf is not a virus. It is used to autorun a specific program (or virus) from the pendrive.
If you have autorun disabled, "Hide known extension" unmarked and you know how to use a pendrive, Your pc will never be infected with these "autorun"

You mean the one after installing Nvidia drivers, the PC keeps on restarting with a restart? I thought that was fixed a long time ago.

never faced any issue with Windows 8.1 ...... very smooth OS

Why will you set your UAC to always notify? The default setting is not that. The default setting is good enough.

The only issue I've with Win 8.1 is Skype. Idk if it's a Skype only issue or a specific combination problem on my end, but everytime I try to shutdown/reboot, there's a skype related error message, and the PC won't shut off unless I accept "okay". Which is really irritating since, my PC usually takes 3-4sec to turn off at max.

Skype is updated, so is Windows, and only happens when Skype is running in the background.

Is there like a site like Digital River where I can get a clean iso? Could you link it? Thanks.

That issue has been there since day one and I have no idea why they can't fix this stupid error. Previously using Skype beta versions used to fix it but now there have been many updates after that beta and still no fix.

Its so stupid that it's taking this long that I stopped caring about it at this point. Hopefully by Win9, everything will be fixed.

My last two installations were from custom ISOs (not preactivated) and everything is the same as normal ISO users. I changed SSDs in between, so I installed fresh copies in between, otherwise I would've had the same installation since Win8 release.

That is one of MS' biggest blunder in recent history. The update has been pulled since then, so you can upgrade back to 8.1 with no data loss.
