Thread: Suggestion for purchasing a Tab

Default Suggestion for purchasing a Tab

Hi BanglaGamer community!! It’s been long since the last time I logged in here but I hope that everything is going just fine. Anyway lately I’ve been pondering about getting myself a Tab. The two primary reasons for which I want to purchase a Tab would be:

    • Reading from Power Point slides, Word documents and PDFs at ease.
    • Creating and editing Word documents and Power Point presentations.

And occasionally listening to music or perhaps watching movies on it. I’m really tight on budget here which is maximum 20K. After that I also need to purchase cover and screen protector for it. But I’ve got few questions for you as I don’t have any prior experience using Tab before.

    • What is the ideal screen size should I consider? Should I pick 7 inch or 10 inch screen size?
    • Considering the fact the Tab won’t be running 24/7; how would be the standby time or battery backup can I expect? A couple of few hours of backup should be fine for me.
    • As I can’t not go for any paid app thus I might need to use few of them; is it necessary to ‘root’ the device for using cracked apps?

The Tab must have OTG support but 3G or LTE support is not mandatory. I’ve checked out few Asus, Lenovo, TwinMOS models but I’m really confused here. Can anyone suggest me a good Tab within my budget?

@newgamer: Nexus 7 is probably the best Android OS based Tab around but I don't want to purchase a secondhand Tab. If you have bit of a clue would you care to answer the three questions that I asked in the thread?

7-8 inch tab would be better, moving around with 10" tab is a pain.
If you don't play games on tab you can expect 4-6 hour backup or even more. Avoid mediatek powered tabs for they generate more heat and consume more power.
You don't need to root to use paid apps.

both nvidia shield and xiaomi mi pad is out of your budget. mi pad is 25.7k at gadget gang 7.... the pad is good for gaming as its the first tab with tegra k1... very good battery backup.. resolution is little bit weird. but in youtube reviewers are discouraging to buy that tab... i dont know why... they didnt say any specific reason
check mi pad's benchmark btw... its benchmark values are too damn HIGH

Buy at least 8" tab to read PDF at ease.

The best fit for these requirements are Surface 2 (now $349 new; used ones should be much lower). Problem is you'll need to contact those facebook groups to get it.

Apart from that, something like dell venue 8 pro is your best bet...but not sure if those are available in BD or how much premium you will have to pay.

@SadmanBD: Thanks for the suggestion. However I read some Amazon.com reviews that reflect sort of mixed response about the Tab (amongst them one is about OS of the device being restrictive, it uses Android based Nook OS.).

@shawon0418: Thanks, I'll keep your advice in mind.

@Taher furious: I've checked out the specs of Xiaomi MiPad and I must say that I'm impressed, but unfortunately I can't stretch my budget anymore. Can you suggest anything else within 20K?

    - - - Updated - - -

    @Reznov: Thanks for the advice.

@CvP: Microsoft Surface Pro 2 will be near 30K I think which I can't afford right now and I don't want to go for a secondhand Tab. Dell Tabs are most probably not available in our country as of yet.

@Cynical It has official CM support. So you will always get the latest CM out there. So, don't worry about that OS restriction

And his requirements are better fulfilled by Surface 1 (instead of any android tabs) which is also within his budget.

@CvP: Thanks for your suggestions but I don't want to go for refurbished or secondhand Tab; I assume the Surface 1 Tab isn't available anymore in the market and even it was then the price tag for a brand new one would have been beyond my budget. I think I'll go with an Android OS based Tab. So have you got anything else on your mind regarding this?

@shawon0418, Taher furious, newgamer: Can you suggest few decent Tabs within 20K which is currently available in the market so that I can pick one? I've been suggested 'Nook HD+' by SadmanBD but how about the price? And I'm still confused about which one I should really go for. I also need to know the names of some good and reliable stores in Dhaka who sell these.

I did not have the HD+ but I had the HD 8GB version. It was sold to @Mohiuddin couple of days ago.

You don't have to worry about OS restriction, installing full Android is very simple. The tab boots off the microsd card slot directly, so essentially its similar to installing Windows via a bootable USB. You just need the right files, and you should have full blown Android in 10 minutes (excluding download times). Once you do that, you can update the OS within the tab.

I would highly recommend it, and you will easily get over 9 hours. Someone mentioned 4-6 hours for 8" tabs, and that is terrible compared to android tablet standards. Unless you play 3D games or constantly downloading torrents, you will easily hit 10 for usage. My usage pattern was similar to yours so I'm confident the HD+ will fit your needs.

There is no camera though., so if you want to video call then HD/HD+ is not an option.

@aayman:Thanks for the advice. Why did you sell it, how much did it cost and from where did you purchase it? Considering the fact it can go 9 hours at once the battery backup is amazing. Although I've been suggested Asus Fonepad 7 FE170CG and Lenovo A3500-HV as well; which is being said to be within my budget. Price tag for the Lenovo one is 20K and I don't know the Asus one's as of yet.
