To some extent. Think of them as Radeon HD 4870, 4770 and 4670. When they are replaced by HD 5870, 5770 and 5670, they technically fall into the same category but all three of the newer generation parts are faster than the older gen. In many cases there may be overlapping, for instance the core i5 is faster than the C2Q in general, so the word similar is wrong

Well, core i3 is a dual core cpu with int. GPU and hyper threaded. AFAIK, i5 have both dual and quad core. i7 is quad & hexa core. i7 9xx is for LGA1356 socket and i7 8xx are for LGA 1156 socket. But that does not means core i3 is similar to Dual Core or i7 to C2Q. They have different architecture. (More over, i3 is hyper threaded. Means it can run 4 active thread on its 2 core. Thats why OCed i3 catches i5 750 which is not hyper threaded.) so you see, its not true.

Core I3's are comparable to C2D.
Core i5 can perform better than C2Qs.
Core i5 750 is comparable to i7 920 for performance in games.
I7 Quad and Hexa are best CPU atm in the world.

In terms of the market segment they fall in, yes, but not in terms of performance.

    Core i3 - Entry Level
    Core i5 - Mainstream
    Core i7 - Highend

What will I say? Your explanation is simply marvellous. +1 to you. I hope everyone can get this properly. And Mazhar Bhai, your saying was the best I think. As time changes, technology evolves too. But the market segments remain the same.
