Question Final Verdict Needed [HD 7790 vs R7 260X]

Well , i have managed to gather some extra bucks on the basis of suggestions given by BG members. So 2 GPUs are affordable at my price range.

    HD 7790 2G OC - 9.2k
    R7 260X 2G - 10.5k

*Both USED and 1years warranty left.

AnandTech [http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1035?vs=1044] and TH [http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...w,3107-7.html] says they are almost identical and R7 260X is able to run games @ slightly more [2/5 FPS] speed. So is it really worthy to spend the extra 1/1.3k for 260X or i better save it for future.

    Suggestions are truly appreciated!

5 fps gain is quite a lot (~7% gain). So, I am gonna go with r7. A used r7 is not really worth 10.5k. 10k would also be too high. 9.7k would be quite nice.

In the benchmark your are showing they used a reference 7790 card (non-oc) whereas the one you are going to buy is OC'd out of the box and so will perform very very close if not almost the same as R9 260X. Plus, don't think you'll see much of a difference between the cards in your rig. So If I were you, I'd be happy with the 7790

    I would go for R7 260X for 3 reasons:

    1. DirectX 11.2
    2. Future resell value.
    3. Mantle.

The HD 7790 and the R7 260X are one and the same, however, the latter might provide more performance out of the box due to higher core clock and memory frequency, I am surprised at how some of you are treating these as two different card/chips. It's safe to assume that you can easily clock the HD 7790 to match the R7 260X's stock speed without any risk, though I would suggest against touching the memory speeds.

exactly! I'm using a 7790 OC Edition myself and hwinfo detects my card as "Radeon 7790/R9 260X"

I think that's exactly what he wants to know. Is that slight performance increase worth spending 1.5k?

@didarnext You also need to consider the TDP of the gpus and what PSU you are going to use...

I am assuming your talking about Sapphire Radeon HD 7790 OC 2GB and Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC 2GB. Both are the same. They have same architecture, same numbers of shaders and ROPs even same core clock frequency at 1050 MHz. Both support directx 11.2, and mantle. 260X has slightly higher memory clock 1650 MHz whereas 7790 has 1600 MHz. Which makes no difference in performance. But 7790 can support 4 displays whereas 260X supports 3. Again something which doesn't make any difference.

But there are two things which one might prefer to have (although I might not)
    1. True Audio. 260X has true audio enabled. I am not certain but only Thief uses True Audio. I dont think it is going to be important in the near future, then again who knows.
    2. 260X is actually smaller in size, specially lengthwise it is 4cm shorter than 7790. Which comes in handy if u have a small casing.

I had bought 7790 last yr even though I knew 260X was coming, because to me both are the same and 260X wasn't worth waiting for.
