Thread: i5-750 + P55 vs. 1090T + 890FX [suggestion needed]

  1. #1

    Default i5-750 + P55 vs. 1090T + 890FX [suggestion needed]

One of my friend just brought a new PSU from abroad, the Corsair TX850W for his PC one week ago. But, his other components remains old school - E6850 @ stock, Giga P45, 2x Sapphire 4830 512MB in CF, 4GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066.

He wants to get CPU, Mobo, RAM, GPU upgrade. He choosed i5-750 (he also told me about i7-860) and GTX 470. And, asked me to suggest him a good P55 mobo and 8GB DDR3 1333 Ram. He loves Corsair/Gigabyte and hates MSI. BTW, he is not gonna OC.

    Now, u guys suggest me which GTX 470 is the best ? and Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333 Ram. His budget for CPU + Mobo is around 500$. So, I thought something different than i7-860/i5-750. How about AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (310$) + Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 (rev. 2.0) (180$) = 490$ rather than i5-750 (200$) or i7-860 (280$) + Any good P55 (around 170~200$ maybe) ? :S

He will not buy some big upgrade in next 2.5~3 years, so suggest him some good upgrades.

    ---------- Post added at 09:23 ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 ----------

Oh, I forgot to mention that, I don't think that this time he's gonna CF/SLI.

And, he's really interested in Sata 6Gb/s, not much interested in USB 3.0 though. So, he wants at least a Sata 6Gb/s capable mobo, by which he can turn on both PCI-E 2.0 x16 and Sata 6Gb/s.

    Processor, Motherboard

If he does heavy encoding/rendering etc, Processor, Motherboard, but id still recommend this motherboard if he didnt have a hatred for MSI for some weird reason

No, he's not much into encoding/rendering, infact gaming is his main purpose, but he does serious multitasking, (de)compressing, installation though.

And, what's the MSI mobo's main advantage over UD5 ? :S Note, neither he'll OC, nor he'll CF/SLI. And, the Asus X58 doesn't have Sata 6Gb/s, so he may not like like it.

That's what I was thinking. He'll not buy a big upgrade (CPU, Mobo, GPU, PSU) in next 2.5~3 years (that's why he's getting 8GB). So, I thought that getting a hexa-core would be helpful in long run. :S

Also, his monitor is 18.5" (1366x768), and he won't change it I guess. And, suggest him the GPU/RAM brand/model.

    EDIT: Reputation (+) 2 u 2 guys. And, my 1500 posts completed.

II x6 is $310 means he will have to pay 310+50 and for mobo 180+30.that cuts his budget.

So, everything is quite final. Here's the list -

PSU: Corsair TX850W [already bought, 1 week old]
Monitor: 18.5" LCD (1366x768) [already bought]
    RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) CMD8GX3M4A1600C8 (link: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145267 )
    GPU: EVGA 012-P3-1472-AR GeForce GTX 470 SuperClocked 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=2240911&SID= )
    Mobo: MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-274-_-Product )
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor (link: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103849 )

Now, one question remains -- How's AMD's game support ? I mean, does AMD has any incompability in games ? I heard that some games causes problems in AMD CPUs (just like- ATI's problem in The Saboteur), though not sure about it. :S

bro i have a suggestion for u. plz change the GPU. in my point of view, it is wired to buy a NVIDIA GPU with a AMD system(just my opinion). there is some thing called perfect match or combination after all. buying a HD5870, instead of GTX470 with that CPU will be better choice. & u will get a huge boost with that, i guess.

If he is taking GTX 470 then he is making a mistake.:/
Tell him to get a HD 5850.

    ---------- Post added at 18:28 ---------- Previous post was at 18:27 ----------

AS it seems at 13K resolution HD5850 would be more than enough.

    I back this one..

ATI 5870 should beat GTX 480 soon...Look at the 3D Mark Vantage score..5870 beats 480 by 1233Gpu score..Im pretty sure because of bad drivers ati is lacking in dx 11 =| .. hope they comes up with sth soon -.-

Oh! and ofcourse 5870 will run a hell lot cooler than "470/480"

IDK how someone can even think of buying a 95'c card in the middle of this summer =|

That is such a lie. Unbelievable that some people think it that way. I have no words to say to those uninformed people just because they think that way, WHY would they think that. They should get a freaking clue about how processors work in the first place. Really sad. This is not intended at you btw

For gaming, get the i7. The 1090T would only be for heavily multithreaded tasks.

Did you say the motherboard + CPU is $500? In that case, since you also need SATA 6GB/s (Why, if hes not upgrading soon?), then id say get these:

    Processor, Motherboard

Also, I would recommend HD5870 as well. It would be faster than the GTX470. They both are great cards, however, so you wont really go wrong with either one.. Finally, why spend so much of money on the RAM? The performance differences are very minimal, hence save some money there and get a sound card or something, ie you can get the following memory: G.Skill or Corsair (Dont doubt G.Skill btw, they are the second best memory makets IMO and that RAM is faster than the dominator you linked)

Ok, got a question in mind. AMD processors seems to lose to intel in memory read/write tests, how much will it effect in game?

    Ok.....I got a question....

when i5 is going on Idle.......one time it goes to 9.0 multiplier.....1.8GHz but mostly it stays to 3.20GHz with all 4 cores active..........temparature difference is 3C or so........Is that for EIST feature? or turbo boost feature?

means lower clock for EIST and higher clock for Turbo BOOST.....24.0x multiplier?

    Is that any problem?:S

OK, WTH is problem with BG ? I can give a (+) reputation to everyone, and I gave too, but can't give Mazhar vai (+) reputation. :/

Thanks for your opinions, but if u don't mind, I haven't actually heard this kinds of things before. Maybe 890FX offers better support for Radeon, but no support or not good matching isn't true IMO. :S

No problem, infact thank u for the info.

Just for knowing, but Mazhar vai, 1090T & 860 seems to perform similar in most games, except 2/3 games. :S I don't get this point.

Don't get me wrong, but I searched a bit, but found no 1333 bus RAM, that's why I chosed the 1600 bus. Thanks for the two links, I chosed the Corsair one. For a few more bucks, but it has a fan and greater design than G.Skill, LOL.

SSDs has much faster read/write speed than HDDs, and they affects gaming performance (FPS) AFAIK. :S But, dunno about this.

@ Rion, by that benchmark i wanted to point out that the hardware "5870" is better than "480" .. if it can beat 480 in dx 10, y not in dx 11? I personally think its because of bad drivers...

OR mayb i'm wrong, it's just sth poped out in my mind

And by memory read/write i meant RAM, not SSD/HDD .. Read THIS, should make things more clear.

what i mean with good matching is not want u think. ok, i am making this simple for u. just tell me, if u saw katrina kaif in a Dhaliwood(Dhakaia) movie, what u will think??
    আরও সহজ করে বললে, ক্যাথরিনা কাইফ যদি বরখা পরে থাকে, ঐটা দেখতে তোমার কেমন লাগবে??lol
that all i want to say. can't find any better comparison!!
