Default Internet connection advice (Kafrul): 3G vs WiMAX vs Broadband

Hi guys. After scouring the Internet, I came across this forum whose members are ideal to answer my queries.

Basically, I am after a reliable, high-volume, high-speed and affordable Internet connection in Kafrul. Reliability is paramount as I live abroad and my parents have very limited troubleshooting know-how. Good speeds for smooth Skype video calls and Viber calls are important as well.

In the past, we had 512kbps Banglalion connection, but the network reach was very random. For example, in one room the indoor modem would get full signal but everywhere else, there would be only 1 or 2 bars (out of 10). This wouldn't normally be an issue, but the WiFi range of the modem is extremely tiny (basically just one big room or two small rooms). As a result, either I would be out of the WiMAX network, or the WiFi range! Is it possible to use a WiFi extender to increase the range of the WiMAX modem?

Disappointed with WiMAX, I am currently trailing 3G and, I have to admit, I am impressed. I got a 6GB package from Banglalink and regularly get speeds of 500-600 kB/s, much higher than the advertised 1 Mbps. However, the cost is prohibitive as the paltry 6GB costs Tk800 (and this is with 3GB bonus, i.e. 3+3=6GB).

Next I am planning to try the lone ISP here in Kafrul (MS Technology). Their prices are good and the speed tests I carried out at their Internet bar seemed reasonable. However, I am worried about the reliability of this broadband connection, as I constantly hear horror stories among other broadband users in Dhaka.

In order to trial broadband, I have to invest around Tk5000 which will all go down the drain if the line fails too often. 3G seems fast and reliable enough, but I would prefer something that offers a bit more value for money. Also, I would need to buy a 3G-to-WiFi base router if I go along this route.

What do you guys suggest? Thanks a million

kafrul is somewhere near at gulshan right? there must be link3 connection, grab it if you can unless the local isp should do well and they are far cheaper compared to wimax and 3gg services available in our country, but make sure you are having optical cable connection in home and they uses only one signal matchine in your residence thus you can prevent sudden dcs

Kafrul is nowhere near Gulshan. It's close to Ibrahimpur, Cantonment and Mirpur.

You could try The Net Heads. From what I've heard, they're pretty darn good. Contact them:
