Thread: Budget around 20k, what'll be the best upgrades ?

  1. #1

Default Budget around 20k, what'll be the best upgrades ?

One of my friend want to upgrade his PC. His current crappy PC -

    Pentium Dual-Core 2.2GHz (E2200) 1MB L2 Cache 800FSB 65nm
    MSI G945 Mobo
    1x 2GB DDR2 677 Bus RAM (must be a crappy brand)
    ONBOARD GFX :/
SAMSUNG 17" CRT (1280x1024 at max)
    Stock PSU (2 years old)
    DVD-RW

What will the best upgrades for him ? He'll have to buy all things from CTG, he can't go to dhaka, neither he can bring from DHK. :/ Fortunately there are still 2 ASUS 500/550W PSUs and 1 ASUS 650W PSU. but CV will want around 6k for them :zz: And, there's a branch of Smart in CTG, so he can get GIGA's cards from there.

    So, what'll be best for him @ 20k ? GIGA 5770 @ 12k, ASUS 500/550W @ 6k total: 18k ?

What will he upgrade that is the question.

Default Re: Budget around 20k, what'll be the best upgrades ?

He wants to play games, and he asked me for the help, he's a total b00n. He MIGHT not be able to upgrade in next 1.5 YEARS. :S

P.S.: I don't know which GFX cards CV has, I'll pay them and Smart CTG a visit in 11/12 May.

EDIT: Most probably their most gfx cards will be ASUS's NVIDIA, and ASUS + NVIDIA = Hightest price, even in DHK.

I think they'll have SOME GIGA Radeon cards too.

If he wants to game then GPU and PSU is the obvious choice...

But, he'll game at 1280*1024 .. therefore the cpu will have to take the load..zzz

i think changing mobo and buying a good gpu & psu (if needed) will be best ( hardware depending on the availability )

He might game in 1024x768 too. Whatever, in that res, the cpu will become even higher bottleneck. :/

And, if he takes 5770 + asus 500/550w, 2k will be left. Is GIGA 4890 @ 16k available currently ?

Changing the mobo ? what'll he get by changing the mobo (not the cpu).

And, I don't think he'll be able to upgrade in next 1.5 years, so what's the point of getting only the mobo now ?

OC the processor...i can easily hit 3.0 GHz with that one....

Get asus psu+4890/gtx260...if you can get it...nothing can bit it...

And that will be enough for playing every game at mid settings.... for maybe around 2yrs....no point getting 5770...cause 4890 is way faster....

I beg to disagree! Even if the mobo lets u to hit it (lets say it would, but theres a lot of different msi945 and a lot of 'em doesnt, right u can still try software oc) keeping it stable with stock cooler at max load seems impossible to me.

    ---------- Post added at 22:38 ---------- Previous post was at 22:14 ----------

I can suggest something that will take a little time and a lot of effort but will give u best result.
    Pro 2.2 (min 2800 tk) + 1k (52xx) = 3800 tk
    Mobo g945 (min 1600 tk max 1800 tk if it supports 45nm) + 900 (g31) = 2500 tk
    Ram 1x2gb 667 (min 1800 tk) + 700 (1x2gb 800) = 2500 tk
    Monitor 17 (min 3k) + 4k (18.5/19 inch) = 7k
    Total 6600, rest 13400!
spend the rest for a 2nd hand 4870 and new/2nd hand psu. It should b enough!

I have tested that same proc in a g31 on a 24/7 basis...and its totally stable with stock cooler/voltage....and its load temp is around 62-65 c...so i would say its nothing...

although about the mobo i agree....cause not all 945 mobo can hit fsb that high...even 945gz mobos cant oc over 800MHz at all...

No, not available. CV (Computer Village) had some Asus PSUs a long time ago, they bought from Global. And, my friend bought one from CV, still there are 2 left. 1 650w and 1 500/550w. Because, no one buys Asus PSU from CV. Our good luck fortunately.
