    Use less ?.

Why do you think Windows 8.1 (or directx 11.2) would not provide better performance than older versions?

The latest thing is not always good. But this time Windows 8.1 is better than any other OS. So I will also give my vote to Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 with classic shell start menu is the best. In fact Win 8 was also better compared to older OS.

New games with Dx 11.1 performs better (eg: bf4). Plus system performance is way better also. Maybe Dx 12 will also be restricted to Win 8.1 and 9.

Time to ditch Win XP/7 and move on to Win 8.1

Windows 7's extended support didn't start yet. Starts at the end of this year I think. If DX12 is released before that, pretty sure it will get it. Otherwise, fingers crossed.

Personally, I'd like to see no DX12 on win7 for two reasons:
    1. MS can spend that time/resource on something else like making DX12 better
    2. People will get off (almost) ancient windows 7 and move on. Otherwise, we will have to see another "winxp never dies!" in 5 years.
