Default 500w Delta PSU on a 1000VA Rahimafroz UPS

Recently my psu got broken and as a result i bought the delta 500w one since then whenever electricty wents out the UPS is making horrible noise as if a motor is running, it continues until i turn off the pc. There was no noise problem with my earlier stock psu. The UPS is 1 year old and now gives only 10min of backup,it used to give 25~30min when new. Anyone has any idea why this is occuring??

ok, the main reason for that sound is almost all the avg consumer lever UPS and IPS produce Electricity which is in

(Squared Sine wave). PC or other sensitive eqp is suppose to run on Pure Sine wave electricity.

So the difference is causing the sound. ( Sq. Sine wave has higher Peak voltage...Worst ups will produce higher peak nd

u dun want that) You can try plugging a table Fan to ur UPS and it will make almost same kind of

sound that u r experiencing. I'm not getting into too much technicals but there is no cheap or easy fix for this.

Getting a true Sine wave UPS is quite expensive such as Smart series UPS made by APC.

Now why ur previous PSU worked good?

My guess is ur previous PSU didnt have PFC circuit.

PSU with Active PFC and Squared sine wave UPS dun go very well together. Information on this issue is really scarce.

    Probable Fix:

My guess is ur new PSU Primary bulk cap is running on edge. Putting a meter on it will be easy to figure it out whether its running out of spec.

do let me know if u wana try it urself. ill then lay down the whole process.

Besides do mention whether ur PSu has a Active PFC circuit or not. And r u sure the sound is only coming from UPS not

    from PSU as well?

yes the psu has an active PFC circuit and the sound is coming only from the UPS. yes i would definitly want to know the process but dont u think it will void my warranty..

one more thing i saw from ur profile that u r running a 500w PSU witha a 800VA Rahimafroz then why dont u face problems??

Default Re: 500w Delta PSU on a 1000VA Rahimafroz UPS

ok, let me give u my spec.

im running Delux 550 W psu (after market) W Active PFC coupled with Rahima afrooz 800VA UPS.

i also have a barely noticeable Buzzing sound 4m my UPS( due to squred sine wave) and no sound from PSU.

Do u Still have warranty on the UPS? if yes i would say simple send to Rahima afrooz support center in mohakhali.

if no warranty then u can run some tests on the ups...let me know if u r comfortable with it. ull need a digital multi meter (better if it includes a amp meter as well)

As for no sound from PSU means it's probably ok i guess. My previous psu used to make buzzing sound when it ran off the ups.

and how old is ur ups battery?

batteries can be checked by plugging digital meter on both the terminals. IM guess u have a 24 V system with 2 battries.

if so then at full charge the reading will be approx. 24.2+ (while on load) and will slowly decrease.

So if u see at full charge with LOAD ur battery initial reading is 23 or low and dropping pretty fast then they r heading towards a replacement.

besides ur battries are probably already weak since its been 1 year already.

so, what is the solution to this problem?
i mean not everybody can afford a APC UPS(pure sine wave)
does this buzzing sound means it'll eat away my hardware as well?

as a Rahimafroz user u know that battery warranty is one year and circuit warranty is two year so i guess i cant experiment and my PSU is only 3 days old..by the way how old is ur UPS and PSU and what was the cost of the PSU? and my sound is not buzzing its really harsh like some motor is running inside the UPS.. and i also want to know that how people in bd uses high end psu s like 650 watt and others?? almost all gamers here uses a minimum 500w

and except for APC UPS there aren't any brand around
that can provide Pure Sine Wave
    so, what ca be done?

Default Re: 500w Delta PSU on a 1000VA Rahimafroz UPS

the 1 im using rahima afrooz 800 vawhich is not Pure sine wave either but i have to stick my ear to the steel body to hear any sound. but yes its there n barely noticeable.

As for FIX i hav already mentioned there is no quick fix for this sound issue.

The UPS Sound can be minimized .....( If its wayy too high then there is somthing faulty ..im guessing AVR coil). But since u have warranty why not send this to rahima afrooz service center.

And on th PSU side the best u can do is change the primary capacitor in ur PSU to a higher voltage to cope up with "vejal sine wave" (Only makes sense when u see that its running out of spec).

Btw UPS glitch that causes PC to reset during power failure is the worst of its kind...which is somthing, none of u are facing. So just chill

** Try to avoid using ur PC for long when its running off the UPS! regardless of how powerful it is.

Default Re: 500w Delta PSU on a 1000VA Rahimafroz UPS

Problem is the square waves in the so-called Deshi UPSs. My uncle is an applied physicist. He say that to keep prices down, here UPSs are made with chips (Or some technical term I can't remember ) that can not produce pure sine waves. These PSUs were not meant to be used with UPSs of any sort and square waves UPSs are out of question. So the only advice I can give is that turn of your computer as quick as possible. I strongly discourage you to fiddle with your PSU or UPS in the process. APCs should stay out of the topic when Bangladeshi market is in discussion.

Hope it helps! (Even if a bit)

@mdtahmid ... Squared sine wave is found in UPS and IPS (most of the avg inverters as well) all over the world due to better utilization of battery and obviously its cheap to built.. NOT JUST in Deshi UPS.

even APC makes a lot of UPS that produce squared sine wave yet being expensive. (Except smart series).

n wut do u mean by " These PSUs were not meant to be used with UPSs"

minitt bro i have a confusion,
the UPS is creating squared sine wave, and the PSU is using it as input, so why the sound is in UPS? isn't it supposed to be in the PSU?
