Then again, hardware accelerated video playback is a PITA to configure and it doesn't work *all* the time.

Also, any decent duel core processor can handle 1080p videos just fine. So getting nvidia cards just for cuda playback is..meh.

GPGPU applications are not for general users.

EDIT: it's fun to play multiple 1080p video simultaneously. I can play 7 without any lag with my 9600GT.
I imagine you can hit ~15 with a latest card.
I think u got something wrong there......cuda is not hardware acceleration thing at all........ei hardware acceleration kaj koraite giya amar jan ber hoye gese.........dxva(mpc codec mpeg2+mp4+mkv,win7 er codec does exept mkv) hoise hardware acceleration .........it uses the pure video engine aka vp2/3 engine inside ur gpu........but using cuda for decoding(coreavc does)means using software decoder with cuda cores .it is just like using ur processor core though a lot faster..........cuda use korleo cpu motamuti use hoy.....but with dxva, cpu use is 1~2%

I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself clearly.

dxva & cuda playback, both are useless. they create far too many problems than they solve.
then only time you'd want dxva/cuda, is when your cpu can't handle hd video which is pretty rare now-a-days.

CvP is right...if your proc can handle it...than leave it alone...if you still have a P4..than you can do with it...

no, gpu isn't used 100% to play video. i can play 7 at once (dxva).

half-assed feature use na korai valo. dxva doesn't support all video not to mention the styled subtitles.

this is the case where video on gpu is recommended.

no. it's about bitrate (and resolution).
just because dxva can play it constantly, doesn't mean it can play with all the bells and whistles.

anyways, this is not the thread to discuss about these.

it drops frame(s) because your processors can not handle the bitrate.
There are 720p videos which will bring your processor on its knees
and 1080p videos which will run just fine on the same processor.

the problem with dxva is that it loses all the extra features of hd videos (esp styled subs).
I'm not sure, but i think cuda playback (coreavc) might have overcome this problem.
