    Default Laptop Upgrades

    A good day to everyone.

I currently own a Compaq 510 which I had purchased back in 2009. This year September will be the 5th year it is in service.
The device is working perfectly after all this time with some problems here and there. I do not wish to buy a new one, but
I do wish to upgrade my laptop to prepare it for another (hopefully) five years.

Here are the specs for my laptop.

In order of necessity, here is what I want to get done.

    Upgrades:
    • RAM (From 2GB to 4GB, if possible 8 GB)
    • 128 GB SSD in the primary HDD slot.
    • 500 GB HDD in the optical drive bay.

Fixes: (Not required, but will do if cheap)
    • Replace keyboard (A couple of key caps are broken, it sometimes shorts and creates ghost key presses making computer unresponsive)
    • Fix unresponsive trackpad (Totally dead, though I had been using mouse long before it stopped working)
    • Fix webcam (Dead)
    • Thoroughly clean the entire laptop from inside-out by taking apart the whole thing

    Issues:
I don't believe it is possible to upgrade to 8 GB RAM. I got conflicting reports. In the service manual, it says it supports two 4GB DDR2 sticks. But on Intel's website, it says the chipset only supports 4 GB RAM. DDR2 SO-DIMM ram is still available. 2 GB sticks are easy to find, 4 GB stick not so. I need help determining how much ram my computer supports and should I upgrade to 8 GB at all.

If I don't buy from abroad, I have two choices for SSD. One from Transcend, provided by UCC, and the other from A-DATA found in many shops including StarTech in Multplan center. Both are in the 8000-9000 Tk range (128 GB). I wish to know which brand would be a better choice.

I looked it up online and found that it is possible to insert a HDD into the optical drive bay of my laptop. However, it requires the use of
a OBHD caddy. I could not find one at multiplan. I need help acquiring one, if it at all can be found in Bangladesh, or should I bring it from abroad.

These are the issues I have for my upgrade plans. Beyond the suggestions requested, I would also like to know if this is a good upgrade plan or
    should I do something different.

The fixes and repairs are easy. I know I will be able to find the parts needed to fix my keyboard and webcam, not sure about the trackpad.
For cleaning, I can pay 500TK to a professional, or I can take it apart myself and clean it. I don't have any prior experience in opening laptops,
but I am not too afraid about it. I have downloaded the service manual for my device and the instructions seem straight forward.

I thank everyone for going through this and giving their suggestions. Thank you.

The trackpad and the web cam I can live without. The keyboard can be replaced for around 1000-1500Tk.
Like I said, these repairs are not necessary, if they are expensive.

But how about upgrading it? like the ram, ssd, and an additional hard drive?

Get a i3 3110M +GT730 for 38k. Much better than your current config.

no point of spending money on this, even if u install a SSD u wont get very high performance from it
(keep in mind most SSD's are SATA3 6Gbps where this laptop of urs shouldnt even have SATA3 ports)
