Default Loudspeakers Research and devolopment !

    Hey guys !
Whats up, few days ive been wondering about the loudspeaker market in bangladesh, then I realize it dominated by all those 5.1 2.1 7.1 crappy systems , well not to say crappy its just I preffer book shelf wooden speakers which provide 10x better quality , anyways enough of that .

First Id like to start off with the current mainstream market , the current market is dominated by creative, and you wanna how well they manufacture speaker?.. I think the only good speakers theyve made so far is the Gigawork T series , a bunch of good midrange speakers ( dont get me wrong here midrange doesnot relate to budget here , its the type of speaker , different speakers have diff freq eg tweeter (high freq) midrange (mid freq like voice or the highs in drums) woofer (bass ! duh) . anyways creative speakers are a bit overhyped, they mostly suffer from poor plastic cabinets and bad crossovers.
btw I did and do own some creative speakers . but I only preffer the T series , but that thing is not built for bass!
Now on to other company Altec lansing, Genrally very good , but the current altecs dont have good midrange driver , so usually youll feel that the bass is overwhelming and is drowning the other sounds .They used to make awesome products back in the day but now they focus on multimedia pc spekaers only , but I do admit they make some stylish shiz !

Now off to microlab, now you all may think this chinise company is ¤¤¤¤ and why am I even bothering to write something about this , well you are quite mistaken , microlab is one of the best chinise loudspeakr manufacturers, they used to suck before , but they have introduced higher end products , which are designed by peter larson ,supposedly a Danish speaker designer , anyways Microlabs have good subs, they make excellent wodden cabinets and they have excellent build quality, only the ones designed by larson though , the others still suck ! ..

Now the worst problems that these speakers face is the crossover issue , either you will feel too lil bass , or overwhelming bass because the crossover cant divide the frequency channels properly . that is why these mainstream speakers dont sound so well , but dont be mistaken its not the speakers fault its mostl the crossover , but in case of cracking noises or distortions its the speaker to blame !, which lower end products suffer from.

Well people in Bd all go screaming BOSE! .. lemme tell you something, Bose is a bigshot yes , but their products have detorieted , Now only the likes of acoustic energy , JBL , Infinity ,Wharfdale have imba bookshelf speakers .

Btw my dad used to manufacture custom speakers From the late 80's , Hes renowned in the audiophile community in Bd . his speakers are truly amazing , although he did retire from this buissness , he used to make amps and speakers using the refrence designs of bose wharfdale and cambridge audio and he also has expensive audio products lots and lots of them ... and I used one of his design to make a central unit speakers , and they provide clarity far better than any of my desktop speakers Ill post the images rite away , and btw this isnt only my saying I also provided one of my prototypes to wasi bhai he also used it and he loved it >

You guys should check out Microlab Solo series !
If you want to get good spekaers from creative buy the ones branded as Cambridge soundworks (although now unavailable in BD)
Altecs most of them are good , dont get ones with huge subs and tiny midrange drivers =) ...

What about 5.1 systems? I'm a midway movie freak and i have the need for sweet surround effect as well as good bass response and clarity for vocals. since i cant afford full range home theatre system i have to go for a good 5.1 PC multimedia speakers (in ur words crappy!! lol)...
So, i hope you can give some helpful idea about 5.1 systems available in bd. i know there are lot of options. but looking forward to ur post...thanx

OFFTOPIC: how'd manage your Z5500? I was about to bring one from singapore but dint have the guts as its really heavy and also I didnt know if theres airport TAXes in bd.

Im not saying that 5.1 systems suck , there are some good ¤¤¤¤ out there ... but the thing is that they have poor crossovers thats the main problem .! .. for good vocals you need a good central speaker unit (google it to know more about it sorry for not providing links ) , recently I have made 2 central units , wasi bhai (mother) had some problems with unclear vocals and he was amazed by my central unit speakers .. anyways that out of the way what I recommend you do that is make your own custom 5.1 system using different speakers ... lemme think ill post back and let you know what speakers you should buy

Hmm first lemme know your budget, btw dont get the creative inspire series avoid them ! they are a must avoid !
Microlabs designed by Peter larson have amazing subs producing smooth bass
Creative gigaworks T series have nice Vocal and high freq sound
Altecs again are good with bass .. so I recommend you do a mix match for the best !
or maybe if your budget is below 5grand maybe it would be wise to either get Microlab Fc 330 or higher products (ones designed by peter larson yet again) or the altec Vs4121 (this baby has a huge sub man ! )

Its really hard to find good midrange speakers ( yes these are the speakers that produce the vocals and mid range frequency sounds) recently I have seen that the quality of tweeters and Subs provided in the speakers in bd are quite good (not most of them thought ) the dome tweeters on the microlabs and creatives are sweet , Altec should be just as good or even better =) !
but just as I said its best if you mix and match , and if you can cash out about 10 K + get microlabs Solo7 series , they seem to be good , the bass driver designs are that of very expensive systems and the dome tweeter is also good , the only problem with that product is its availability =) , anyways good luck ! and if you need more help with your sound system we can meet up at IDB and then we can check things out =D

Yes they were made by me using dads raw materials .. and these 2 were prototypes one is with meh and the other for wasi bhai , these babies excel in terms of quality , combined with a good amp and sub they will outperform most altecs below 900 Usd

I have a T20, its certainly not built for bass, but like any audiophile will tell you, there's much more to music than bass. The T20 has a warm, powerful and detailed midrange, and clear yet screaming highs. Brilliant for Rock/Metal, not so much for R&B and all, but that wasnt a problem for me. Gifted it to my dad a few months back, he listens to old classical music and loves it

Btw, good list there but you forgot audioEngine and Polk (cant think of any more now). I auditioned the audioEngine A5 sometime back, and found a somewhat similar sound signature as the T20, but with deeper, punchier lows, a lush, warm and even more detailed midrange and similar screaming highs. Great stuff

Yeah I saw the audio engine stuff, but not really fimilliar with it, anyways my dad owns Wharfdales diamond series and they are the bomb , btw The T20 series goes really well with good woofers and I am going to make myself an excellent 8" woofer using the horn cabinet design pretty soon , these horn cabinets have huge bass ports and are designed for pure smooth bass performance

BTW the central speaker units I have made Outperforms the Creatives in voice clarity because that unit was made for voice and midrange specifically , btw the T20 was designed as a full range speaker and performs excellently as a midrage speaker ! but not so as a full range , lacks the smooth bass from loudspeakers with woofer drivers / subwoofers !

    Man, sound is so subjective

I've been a Metalhead for like a decade now, and been making music for half. I design sound, I edit sound, I sleep sound, I eat sound, I do all sorts of stuff with sound (even dirty things =p); I can tell any combination of a dozen octaves within the audible and inaudible Nyquist frequencies, bypass the Fletcher-Munson curve, and even punch a 31.45Hz sinusoidal capacitor on an instrument amplifier head and tell you I did the cabinet twice over. But one thing I never understood was the following equation:

    Money x ExpensiveListeningEquipmentForEntertainment = ?

When I watch a movie, listen to music (engineer's hat off), or do anything with sound that's for entertainment, I never bothered about quality (or quantity for that matter). A mentor once told me that people who spend thousands of dollars for that single band of "clarity" go by the Law of Inverse Returns I even worked for Yamaha once and had to deal with marketing gimmicks which I didn't like - I had to convince people that Onkyo and JBL were "no good". And that was tough, even the multi-directional, pseudo-surround single-speaker system was beaten to a pulp by Samsung in reality while I had to lie about it.

But all that doesn't matter if you build your own speakers, because that is awe -- wait for it -- some

And yes, if you're incapable of doing that, the next best thing to do would be to stick to standalone speakers (most of the speakers in this world can produce all frequencies in the audible spectrum, some are good at it and others not so) and putting them together in how big an array you would like. Now if I had the money (and actually the motivation) I would go ahead with this immediately.
