4800+ Means 4800 MHZ plus, and it's 2.4 GHZ core x2 which is almost close to 5GHZ or 5000 MHZ, or he could be running the processor with a 5% oc which is ending up being at 5GHZ. but jigsaw, I myself once owned a x2 3600+ with k9-agm2-fih mobo and wasn't satisfied with the built in ati x1250, how come you are able to play undercover with that built in of yours where as I struggled to play NFS Carbon with the on board graphic back at that time? I even once borrowed 2 GB ram and with a total memory of 4 GB on xp64 didn't get more than 15 FPS in doom 3 with x1250 with everything set low!!!

I'm an old user of amd, and I know how amd rates their processors, so I'm pretty much sure of what I'm saying. If u want more proof, go to amd's site and have a look at their faq's on how this works. and 3600+ means 3600 MHZ plus, and the clock speed of 1.89 GHZ and the x2 factor kicks in, multiply the 1.89 GHZ twice and can you see the numbers hitting 3.6 GHZ plus, explains that little 3600+ number mentioned along with the processor.

You guys seem very much lost to me :S what does intel dual core 2.0 GHZ mean, in MHZ? Are you people trying to say that a dual core 2.0 GHZ means 1.0 GHZ x2 or 2.0 GHZ x2? Answer this and then we'll move on.

"x300" is not an on board card thus it has it's own memory and memory clock, DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT JUDGE CARDS BY HIGHER MODEL NUMBERS, I owned x300, x550, x700, "x1250" is an on board solution and isn't comparable with an External pci express! any more of you that needs to know a thing or two about tech, you can keep the questions coming and I'll answer.

Bro, you got mixed things up but dont worry its a common misunderstanding happens to almost all general user about amd and dual core.

First of all, the xxxx+ thing after AMD cpu has not much to do with its clock speed. Its a PR (performance rating) system started by amd actually to compare its processors with intel because intel processors was mostly common to others.

That "4800+" is actually called Pentium Rating or Performance Rating. This all starts from the competition between Intel and AMD when they lauched Pentium IV and Athlon XP. Due to technological differences, an Athlon XP is able to outperform an Pentium IV (or at least performs like a P4) even clocked at slower frequency. Therefore, because of marketing strategy, AMD came out with the idea of PR. As example, the Barton 2500+ is called so because AMD claims that even clocked at 1.83GHz it can outperform a Pentium IV 2.53GHz so it's rated at "2500+".

Intel is the market leader so they pretty much set the standards for how processors are measured. It has been common for CPUs to be measured in MHz or GHz, but this is not the only thing that determines a processors "processing" speed. Thus a processor with less cycles per second (Hz) can outperform a processor with a higher Hz rating if counting instructions per each of these cycles. Think of it this way: If I type 60 words a minute with one hand and you type 60 words a minute with two hands, my wpm per finger is twice that of yours even though we put the same amount of words on the screen.

Second, two core performing at 2.5 each doesnt mean their total power is 5 GHz because its just doesnt work that way. If there is a application supports only single core processor then a single core 2.5 GHz and a quad core 2.5 GHz will perform same for that app. Its like two core will be faster than one core (a lot faster) but for that you cant add their clock speed together!! Because they doesnt work together, they work at the same time separately so they can do a work in less time in other words they can perform better. (someone explain it in a better way, I just cant find the right words)!!

A dual core 2 GHz means its a Dual core 2 GHz!! It has two core each performing at 2.0 GHz clock but its not 4 GHz together. Because of the double core, they will perform faster, or even they will do two things separately at the same time, but what so ever you cant compare them equally with a 4 GHz single core processor.

I've been following AMD for a LONG LONG TIME SINCE THE AGE of cyrix 333 MHZ processors and tx pro mobos, so here's a chance for me to clarify things. First of all, I'd like to quote a portion from your post above

"That "4800+" is actually called Pentium Rating or Performance Rating. This all starts from the competition between Intel and AMD when they lauched Pentium IV and Athlon XP. and..

And would you please share the asking price in your mind with us (if theres any) ?

    My Point:

if what u said above is true, then a 5200+ is supoosed to mean it can outperform an intel 5.2 GHZ or lets say it in MHZ... 5200 MHZ, am I right?

Okay now here's something you wrote earlier, "4800+ er actual performance near 2.5 like 3600+ actually works at 1.89 GHz." and here's where you also messed up bro! But am not gonna emphasize on this part.

    and finally,

"..two core performing at 2.5 GHz each doesnt mean their total power is 5 GHz because its just doesnt work that way. If there is a application supports only single core processor then a single core 2.5 GHz and a quad core 2.5 GHz will perform same for that app. Its like two core will be faster than one core (a lot faster) but for that you cant add their clock speed together!! My comments:

you're totally right about this part, however the way I see it, amd's numbering method is outdated and thus lead us to that confusion, however, the point is, what i wrote about amd taking their number method into mind, that 5200+=5200 MHz plus = 5.2 GHZ isn't wrong at all! But the way you replied to my post lead me into thinking of an argument which I once had with an employee @ GLOBAL computers who was claiming that 2.0 GHZ dual core means to 1.0 GHZ processors running togather, lead me into writing something whic, when I took a look at afterwards, made myself laugh! It was probably cause of the fact I've been sitting infront of the pc for too long and didn't pay enought attention..

Do some digging dammit! check out the internet for benches and then tell, and I never said you should compare x300 to a x1300, read your earlier post carefully, what you wrote is that you played carbon on a x300 just fine and it shouldn't have any problems if running on x1250 and you found my post funny! Now, the impression that you made with that post of yours, was, that the x1250 is better than x300 and and should run nfs carbon smoothly, however, because the x1250 is an onboard solution, it's memory clock is pretty much as the same as your system's memory clock and thus it can't outperform a card with onboard memory. Have I made myself clear?
