Thread: USB 3.0 MoBo: Do i need it?

  1. #1

Default USB 3.0 MoBo: Do i need it?

Here is a preview or review by gb. They claim copying or moving 25gb file in 70sec via usb 3.0 port. AFAIK even the raptor cant achieve that bandwith. No idea about raid or ssd. Th did a review on usb3 mb using ssd in raid. My q is simple. Do i need it? Both the mb and that sorts of usb drive gb used won't be very cheap in bd, at least the pen drive will be highly expensive i guess (if i really find one). What do u think?

Nope .. I dont see a point to upgrade mobo just for usb3.
Simply there is almost no device that can utilize that much BW right now.

Ok. But what about its speed? 25gb in 70s= around 358mbps. Amazing, isn't it?

USB3 is just a new feature companies like GB use for marketing their mobos. We're still a long way off from seeing some mainstream USB3 devices. So I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon just yet.

I don't think we'll be seeing devices with USB 3.0 striking with full stride in less than a year. It's still a "showcase" type of technology that'll likely to be adopted widely after a year later or so from now on.

Couldn't agree more! But if you're looking to build a high configuration pc and if you can afford the mobo then buying one that supports usb 3.0 wouldn't be a bad Idea, but no meaning of upgrading your system only cause of usb 3.0 interface, do keep in mind that usb 3.0 devices aren't aren't available or the industry standard yet, just like @màréX said, lets wait and see what happens in the long run.

yes he is right. The mobo you've has SATA-II 3.0 Gb/s but not usb 3.0. Check out the specs again here:

I was stating the fact that ►Sy3D|^|SuNnY• 's MOBO isn't USB 3.0 but the only figure 3.0 that's present in the mobo's spec is "sata-II 3.0 Gb/s" my bad I misplaced the 3.0 Gb/s in my prevous post.

    best USB 3.0 mobo.... afaik, GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 @ 11k. but, one major prob... if u want USB 3.0/SATA 3.0(sata 6Gbps), then u'll have to run your gpu in PCI-E 2.0 x8 mode = PCI-E 1.1/1.0 x16 mode..... otherwise, u can run in USB 2.0/SATA 3Gbps with PCI-E 2.0 x16.
