Thread: Got two stupid questions in mind

Default Got two stupid questions in mind

    1. Why P35/P43/P45's are best suited with quads when comparing with G31/G33/G35/G41/G43 ?

Yeah, I know that G Series comes with onboard gfx and targets more budget users and on the other hand P/X Series doesn't offers onboard gfx and they are made for performance suckers/gamers/enthusiasts. But, I want to know why they are better ? Coz they have more slots/better OCing capibility/better RAM support ? And, what role the 'ICH' thing plays ? What are the differences among ICH8, ICH9, ICH10 and ICH10R ?

    2. What are the differences among these three resolutions (except aspect ratios) ?

    1366x768
    1440x900
    1680x1050

refresh rate somporkito kono baper ase ? Er saathe gfx card er kono role ase ? Ami jotodur jani, resolution joto high hobe, max refresh rate toto kome jaabe.

Ar, 9600GT/4850/5770/GTX 285 er moto gpu ki ei tinta resolution e ki 200hz refresh rate e operate korte parbe ?

Ami kothai jani porsilam thik ei kotha ta - "With resolution like 1366x768, u won't get a good refresh rate, may be 60hz at max. Try to stick around 1680x1050"

ami purai noob, eita detail e boliyen plz.

    1) Usually the G series motherboards are directed at mainstream systems, hence they tend to have a worse PWM circuitry. Since quads usually pull a decent amount of power, the power delivery of the processors need to be up to scratch. Thats because when approacing the upper limits of what a motherboards power circuitry can deliver to the processor, the power tends have more ripple/noise, leading to fluctuations in voltages. Thats the main difference, other differences are that the P series usually have around 1-2% more performance due to slightly faster MCH latencies. Hence when people recommend systems, they assume when you are getting a quad you might aswell get a P series motherboard to extract full performance from the quad, but that statement entirely depends on the needs of the system.

    2) ICH 8/9/10 are the southbridges in the motherboard. The HDD controllers, the PCI-E controllers, USB controllers and other I/O functions are controlled by the southbridge. Usually, the important change between different southbridges come in the form of a different HDD controller, which speeds up the HDD performance slightly. Other differences are more USB ports, faster USB speeds (USB 3.0 will be the next big change in the new southbridge), more PCI-E lanes, better LAN controller etc

    3) Refresh rate is how many times the screen is processed by the display hardware itself (in the monitor). For example, when you are in the windows background doing nothing, the screen will process and display that identical screen 60 times if you have a refresh rate of 60hz. Dont confuse this with frame rate, that refers to how many times the video card can process and send a different screen of data to the monitor/display.Refresh rate has nothing to do with resolutions, unless you are talking about CRT monitors which have a greater difficulty in delivering higher refresh rates as the resolution goes up (They have a variable resolution and refresh rate). LCD screens have a fixed 60hz refresh rate regardless of the resolution (120hz are coming out nowadays). So the only difference between those resolutions is the number of pixels on the screen, the more there is, the better it looks while putting more strain on the video card while gaming.

    Reply to question (1),

then why the Q6600 performs much better in G965 than G31 ? Same reason again ? And what would happen if there's E6700 instead of Q6600 ?

There are some LCDs which have 75Hz refresh rate....one more thing having higher refresh rate reduces strain on your eye....It is true only for CRTs...cause they refresh one line at a time...for LCDs doesnt really matter....but higher refresh rates produce lower response times....but that doesnt matter much in case of TN panels...

@Rion:....theres something as family and tier in PC parts industry....Say 5000 series ati cards have 4 types..the 5400, 5500/5600, 5700, 5800/5900 series....the first 1 ios value/low end segment...the second and third mainstream or medium end segment...and the last one is high end or performance segment....now a 5450 doesnt even come close to a 4650 in performance....this is the same thing....g965 was the best mobo chip in 900 series...it also had 945 and 955...g35 was the best mobo chip in 3 series...g31 was the low end and g33 was the middle end...same goes for 4 series...like g41 for low end and g43 for middle and g45 for high end...

So comparing g31 with 965g is kinda pointless....cause they are from different market/consumer segment...

Now for GB P45 And alba P43.....P45 is better than P43....and GB makes better mobo than albatron...now the p43 from GB costs around 9k...the Alba one costs 4.4k...now the albatron one is not limited in performance in any sense...it has all the bell and whistles of a P43 board...but may be not the best built quality and extra features...it doesnt mean the quality is worse...if you get warranty and dont overdo things..it is fine for you...but still its a p43 board...so it will perform better than a g31...

    1) It doesnt perform much faster, but only slightly and that may be due to the reasons i gave before. Also, as Avas explained, they were in different market segments. Btw, a E6700 and Q6600 wont make any difference whatsoever, as I mentioned that mostly depends on the PWM of the motherboard, a better one allowing better overclocks

    2) Yes, its 60hz

    3) What do you mean by support? As for the Chipset, only major difference between P45 and P43 is that P45 allows for Crossfire (x8, x8) due to a greater number of PCI-E lanes, whereas P43 does not and even if it does, the second card is limited to a x4 PCI-E lane which will bottleneck the card

but, I wanted to know about IPS Panels, the Dell 2209WA. I guess the same thing also applies for IPS's too, right ?

Thanks for letting me know, ive stopped using vga for a good few years so I honestly wasnt aware of that. Are you sure all LCD's revert to 75hz in VGA?

Guys, which will be better between these two -

    1. Albatron PXP43
    2. ECS P43T-A2

both are similar in price and feature. I found only one difference. And that is, there's no review of alba's one, where ecs's one has 2-3 reviews. Ballboy vai is using the alba's one where aayman vai and sunny using ecs's p45 with their quad. I think both are same, what do u say ?

Oh, does they have RAID feature ?
