Exclamation Crucial M4 128GB, Irrecoverable hardware issue detected by the Crucial team!!!

Crucial M4 128GB, Irrecoverable issue detected by the Crucial team. At first i noticed it myself when i was using my Crucial M4 128GB. After a year of use, i suddenly noticed that my 4k-64Thrd Benchmark score in AS SSD has been dropped significantly. I clean formatted the entire drive, updated the firmware, even reset the drive offset but none of them seemed to work. Then i searched on the internet and found that it is actually a Marvell controller issue on a low spaced drives. Samsung 830 users are also been seen having this problem. Going to Crucial's offcial forum, i noticed that numerous members who are owning the 128GB version of the SSD having the exact same problem. After a year of sealing the lips about this particular problem, Crucial finally decided to declare it as a hardware error and replaced many of this SSD who bought via Newegg/Amazon.

No it's not a full fledged bankruptcy. All their services and warranty will still be in place.

Hopefully not. If things go according to plan (which they have so far) then end-users won't be affected at all.

I believe OCZ Octane SSDs had almost 60% failure rate.

Asking for a benchmark would be the right thing to ask for only if u intend to buy it.

As for rest of the user, this degradation is usually noticeable in synthetic benchmark. This affects higher queue where a regular user usually don't operate. For the sake of understanding, most users will reach max queue depths of 7 or even less. The remarks highlighted here is about queue depths of
    10 or above.

We don't run virus scan, transfer files and load games, run utorrents all together on ssd do we?

Data corruption is another major issue of these crucial drives. Here's an real life example:

As you can see, the Movie file name is not the same as it is showing in the video player. The file somehow containing the metadata. Also the movie will stop playing while entering the red marked region bar. Now what has happened? I copied few of my favorite movies into the ssd, after i copied my movies into the harddrive, 80% of them got damaged in this way. Thank god, i had a backup of my important documents in a rewritable dvd. However, I tried 4-5 different players, turning subs on/off, but none seemed to work for me. Those which i have written in the dvds are perfectly fine! But those which i had in my ssd got damaged in this way.

Check the embedded metadata of that mp4 container, titles may be set there too and those will take precedence.

That said, I've owned one longer than most people here and have absolutely no issues. Sure, it's gotten slower with use, but is still plenty fast -- and I'm not exactly seeing any vendor specific advisories about it.

Micron are very responsive about issues in their products, as they've proven time after time (Most recently with their M500 960~ GB SSDs).

I also do not believe this is a very widespread issue, in all honesty.

Post your previous and now AS SSD score screenshot. Mine was 700-727 for first few year. And then it got as low as 400-450. And this read those link i posted guessing you have some trusting issue regarding my post, almost each and every single user of 128GB M4 throughout the world (including me) having that ultra low 4k-64thrd score. Now don't say Crucial is extra-sensitive when it comes to your case. lol.

And about the Metadata, each time i change any hardware, which includes shifting myself from SSD (remember that i ONLY used SSD in that time) to HDD, i clean format the entire drive, reset the offset, use clean MBR, reinstall the windows, so there's NO CHANCE that the player would contain the metadata. Data corruption is the only viable reason for this occurrence.

Better move to it when SATA Express comes out alongside Broadwell and it gets it native support from Microsoft.

The very last time i ran my ssd life pro. It shows as usual a very a good health report but no one would even guess it has that issue inside it.

Synthetic benchmarks != real world, practical usage. This is like arguing a 50MB/s dd is 'bad' -- sure, it's worse than what you had before, but in no way discredits the credibility of a product that's been rather solid for 3 or so years.

Granted the marvel controllers used here are way past their prime (Unless you're in need of cheap, yet massive storage: cue the m500), but they're still 'okay'.

My M4 128GB after six months of use. After another six month, the score reached to ~410-450 only.
