Default Steam Passes 65 Million Registered Users

Valve's Steam service has surpassed 65 million users milestone. The service has grown 30%(15 million users) in the last 12 months. Steam's user base is now bigger than Microsoft's Xbox Live's 48 million, but Sony is still the top dog with 110 million PlayStation Network users.

"The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta."

Origin has about 40 last I heard. Most of them are there to play only FIFA and BF. I don't think they buy anything else there since most people hate origin anyway. Speaking of numbers, 65 million is not the number of users, it's the number of "active" users. The raw number of all users would be far greater

I use Origin for NFS and FIFA... it sucks big time, I hate it! major problem is that there is no convenient way to backup/restore games through it. And some games doesn't even backup at all... no matter what you do, if you re-install Windows, you have to re-download those games again. And currently I am facing a strange issue with FIFA 14, everytime they release a new Patch, my game file corrupts and I have to re-download entire game again... I have downloaded it 3 times already!!! (3 x 6.67GB = 20.01GB). And yeah, there is also payment issue with Origin Store.

Steam is way better and it rocks!!

Origin is poor, very very poor. But still better than uplay. Steam is still the king, no doubt

I also use UPlay ... for PoP and AC series.
Atleast UPlay gives the option to buy, download and play games through Steam which Origin doesn't. So by buying UPlay games through Steam there is no download or backup/restore issues like Origin. And there was always-on DRM issue with UPlay at the beginning, but such issue doesn't exists anymore.

Uplay is crap, their server is down all the time. Will never buy anything from them again.

I have hundreds of hours of Assassin's Creed Multiplayer on record, I played practically everyday... I faced no downtime.

There was downtime initially, when they first launched UPlay, but no such issue exists now... they fixed it.
