    Default Assassin's Creed V: Unity

    Assassin's Creed V: Unity
    Developer: UBISOFT Montreal
    Publisher: UBISOFT
    Platforms: PC, PS4, XBOX One
    Release Date: Fall 2014

Next Assassin's Creed will be "much more" next-gen

The next Assassin's Creed games will see a far greater leap in advancement for next-gen consoles, developer Ubisoft has said.

"I think 'next' next-gen is going to be for the next games," lead game designer Jean-Sebastien Decant told Gamereactor. "The next games are going to be much more on the next-gen side. This one is really on the edge."

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is a cross-generational release with only minor graphical improvements on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This was due to the fact both next-gen consoles' technical specifications were still unknown when the project was begun.

"When you start and you don't even know the specs or what they are going to do you don't think about that [next-gen consoles] or you're going to be sick," Decant explained.

"We thought about next-gen graphics and in order to explore that we used the high-end PCs on the side, and then we continued just what we started with the previous games and built upon that."

This is a good thing - despite introducing an enjoyable open world naval section to Assassin's Creed 4, the series' land-based missions are feeling increasingly tired.

"We cannot tell you that we're happy and this is how we want the game to be and we're going to do ten more games with exactly that same gameplay," Decant argued. "No, we are unhappy. We want to do more. There are lots of things we want to refine on the combat side, on the parkour, on the stealth."

Beyond gameplay refinements, Decant hinted at broader changes for the franchise that next-gen may bring - namely the evolution of social features within the series' worlds.

"I think we're going toward a gaming place where the open world will be shared with other players. More and more. Socially speaking, but also maybe multiplayer stuff. And we will have to consider the open world much more like a platform that we could sustain for years," he concluded.

Black Flag includes a number of hints at possible Assassin's Creed 5 locations. Ubisoft usually announces its next title in the series each spring for release the following November.

this series is getting dull, boring and pointless... ubisoft shouldn't have fired the creator.

Black Flag is a huge improvement from the previous two games and it proves that there's more from Assassin's Creed series that yet to deserve a hot.

They should take a break for one year, rather a POP in 2014 can change the test..Moreover they have Watch dogs and The crew next year to catch all attention....
People should stop blaming games for allegedly *copying* each other: "oh this game is Skyrim copy", "this game is WoW knock off", "this game is just another DMC" - enough!

On this rate every 3rd person action will be God of War, every 3rd p shooter Gears, every 1st will be CoD.. it's ridiculous. They are called genres people! And if you look carefully you'll see allot more than mimicry out there.

The Crew is not that big. It can sell a maximum of 2.5million units where AC almost 10million units every year.

Ubisoft Surveying Fans on Assassin's Creed 5, PvP Naval Combat

A Ubisoft survey sent to fans suggests what the developer/publisher is thinking about for Assassin's Creed V. The questions also present the possibility that Ubisoft is considering a new, pirate-centric series separate from what it accomplished in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

"In such a game," a follow-up question says of a non-Assassin's Creed-branded pirate game, "what would be the most important elements among these below?" Choices include a customizable pirate character, ship, and hideout, a deeper economy, and additional activities at sea or on land. More interestingly, it inquires about player interest in cooperative and multiplayer naval combat, asking survey subjects if they would like to "sail and fight with my friends" and "sail and fight with other players."

Additionally, Ubisoft's survey asks what players would most like to see in a new Assassin's Creed -- including a new modern day hero, perhaps indicating something similar to Desmond's narrative arc rather than AC4's abstract, meta modern day storytelling. The questionnaire also inquired about more high-level subjects, such as desired gameplay improvements and historical settings. Check out some of the questions below.

Two Assassin's Creed games reportedly in development for 2014

According to Examiner sources said to be familiar with the projects, one is being developed for PS4 and Xbox One, while the other is being developed for PS3 and Xbox 360.

How PC and Wii U releases fit into the equation isn't covered in the report, which also claims that the franchise "is under a massive re-scope".

Approached today about the claims made in the report, a spokesperson for Ubisoft told CVG the company doesn't comment on rumours or speculation.

In November, Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key effectively said that the need to cater to the large Xbox 360 and PS3 installed bases had held back the Xbox One and PS4 version of Assassin's Creed 4. Explaining why he believes many console launch games are underwhelming, the executive said:

"Right now, all publishers are transitioning their development resources. For a game like Assassin's Creed Black Flag, most of the sales are still going to be on current generation platforms. We can't make a version for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One that's so wildly different that we can't market them together.

"So, for now, developers and designers are focused on making a game that works really well on all of the systems - but as we transition resources to the next gen, it's going to be more difficult to do that because the power of these machines is going to allow so much more creativity."

Assassin's Creed 5 Could Be Set In Feudal Japan' - Ubisoft

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon suggests that the next Assassin's Creed game could have a samurai setting.

The setting of the next Assassin's Creed game is always a subject rife for speculation, but Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon has provided a possible hint as to where Assassin's Creed 5 could be set.
"Feudal Japan remains – like numerous other time periods and locations – a possible future setting for the franchise," Guesdon told VG247

"Thanks to the Animus, the entire human history is our playground.”

There has also been speculation that Assassin's Creed 5 will be set in Egypt, with an Egyptian themed image from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag looking remarkably similar to a leaked screenshot that was originally thought to come from a Prince of Persia game

The potential of a Samurai themed Assassin's Creed game set in feudal Japan has been one that's been avidly discussed by Assassin's Creed fans in forums and comments sections.
Given that Ubisoft included a rating system for the missions in Assassin's Creed 4: Blag Flag, they're obviously keen to listen to fans.

So, who knows, perhaps they'll be getting the feudal Japan setting they've been clamouring for in Assassin's Creed 5.

Assassin's Creed V is not Japan, but is Jade Raymond's favorite historical era

There’s a compelling story propelling Assassin’s Creed, as well, one that came from Raymond’s fascination with conspiracy theories developed from reading books about the Illuminati in her early teens. Assassin’s Creed borrows heavily from that genre, featuring a secret society of warriors who travel back in time (not by time travel because “that’s cheesy,” she offers) using genetic memory (“this idea that the memories of people’s ancestors are encoded in their genes”).

Assassin’s Creed has explored the Crusades, the Renaissance, American Revolution and most recently pirates. The fifth installment will feature her favorite historical era, Raymond says, but she can’t even give a hint of what that is because it would ruin the surprise. She did dispel the rumor that it is set at the end of the samurai age in Japan. That said, she thinks that would be a cool idea.

“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” explains Raymond. “If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”

Reddit Rumor: Assassin's Creed V to take place in Industrial Revolution, unveil 03/05

It's possibly fake, but here it is:
    Ubisoft® Uncloak An All-New Era With Assassin’s Creed® V
    Paris, France – 04 Mar 2014

Today, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed® V, the next major release in the award winning, best-selling franchise. Assassin’s Creed V serves as the introduction to an all new hero, setting and gameplay mechanics as the Assassin’s Creed franchise hits a new era.

Assassin’s Creed V has been in the development cycle for almost three years, at Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto with development support from Ubisoft studios at Annecy, Quebec and Montpellier. Assassin’s Creed V will release on the PlayStation®4 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. The game will release worldwide on November 4, 2014.

In the events of the ongoing Industrial Revolution, Assassin’s Creed V follows the story of Samuel Fey, as he enters the Assassin Order in a time of change and Templar rule. Fey is a successful and respectful entrepreneur, who works outside the corrupt law to guarantee the security of his own and others’ futures. Taking place during the closing years of the Industrial Revolution in Victorian London, players will explore all new locales as they uncover the truth behind the hidden ongoing rebellion.

Assassin’s Creed V is the turning point for the franchise, featuring completely revised stealth and combat mechanics, powered by the next-generation Ubisoft AnvilX engine and all-new gameplay features and systems. While Assassin’s Creed acts as Ubisoft’s rescope for the franchise, it maintains the key touch points that the series is built upon.

    Assassin’s Creed V can be pre-ordered at UBIShop® by visiting: http://shop.ubi.com/AC5

Limited, Collectors and Special Editions will be available after further information is uncovered in the coming weeks.

Kotaku: Leaked Images Reveal One Of This Fall's Two Assassin's Creed Games

One of this fall's big Assassin's Creed games, called or code-named Unity, is set at least partly in 18th-century Paris, according to early leaked screenshots obtained by Kotaku.

These screenshots, sent to me by a source who requested anonymity, show Unity's new assassin roaming around what appears to be Paris. You can see Notre Dame, the Seine River, and other Parisian landmarks, and the shots are very clearly from an early version of the game.P

What's more, this is just one of two major Assassin's Creed games that will be out later this year, according to a number of sources. Unity will be for the current-gen consoles—Xbox One and PS4—while a second game, possibly called or code-named Comet, will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3. Presumably one or both versions will also be on PC. Sorry, Nintendo fans: I haven't yet heard anything about Wii U.
