Default Samsung to Begin Mass Production of 560ppi Smartphone Screens

    - Samsung to start mass production of 5-inch 560ppi AMOLED panels for 2014 smartphones

Samsung is reportedly preparing the launch of smartphone displays that can deliver a pixel density of up to 560ppi, and it might soon kick off their mass production so as to have them ready for shipping in 2014.

According to a report coming from OLED.at, Samsung Display CEO Kinam Kim has already confirmed that the company is on the brink of beginning production of 5-inch 560ppi AMOLED panels, though no info on when the first smartphones to pack them will arrive has been provided as of now.

Such a 5-inch screen would be able to deliver a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which would certainly prove a great option for the next Samsung flagship smartphone, supposedly none other than the Galaxy S5.

As SamMobile notes, the resolution might seem too high for a smartphone, but this doesn’t mean that enthusiasts won’t be attracted to it. More on this should be provided soon, so stay tuned for the news.

How about they make a 2560x1440 monitor for <$250, this pixel race on smartphones is over at this point.

Totally useless. I dont see any reason other than bragging rights to create a display like this.

And aayman is right. Give us a AMOLED 120Hz 4k 30" monitor at affordable price.

Higher PPI panels are easier to manufacture (without defects) than High PPI large panels. Yield is just too low for larger panels.

This is why 4k for ~30" displays are so expensive while there are laptops with (near) 4k res for half the price.

Because it will sell for the same reason 400+ ppi panels are selling. Human eyes do not really get any benefit after ~300ppi (for usual phone-usage-distance) unless you are holding your phone around your nose. But what is stopping idiots from claiming I got more PPI so my display is better...

This higher resolution screen race has gone as far as it needs to. Its high time they start concentrating more on battery life. Specially since most high-end smartphones these days are going the non-removable battery route.

ya only way to differentiate between 720p and 1080p 5" phone is to put them side by side.

Galaxy s4,htc one and even the xperia z have very good battery life, much much better than what android flagships had couple of years back .

I wanna tell samsung to improve their display tech. amoled has high contrast... they black are pure black bcoz the led is off. but their color saturation is not good compare to lcd/ips. like lg g2, or htc one... those provide natural color...
if u look at a flower wallpaper or green grasses... good ips display it will look natural... but on amoled the color will look kinda peculiar.

i know lcd is here for ages where oled just came 4years ago... but they can improve their tech
