Default Intel Pays AMD $1.25 billion to settle disputes

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(Business Wire)--

Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) today announced a comprehensive agreement to end all outstanding legal disputes between the companies, including antitrust litigation and patent cross license disputes.

In a joint statement the two companies commented, "While the relationship between the two companies has been difficult in the past, this agreement ends the legal disputes and enables the companies to focus all of our efforts on product innovation and development."

Under terms of the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights from a new 5-year cross license agreement, Intel and AMD will give up any claims of breach from the previous license agreement, and Intel will pay AMD $1.25 billion. Intel has also agreed to abide by a set of business practice provisions. As a result,

AMD will drop all pending litigation including the case in U.S. District Court in Delaware and two cases pending in Japan. AMD will also withdraw all of its regulatory complaints worldwide. The agreement will be made public in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Finally they have done the right thing to settle the disputes. They were charged in so many countries, something had to be done at some point. Glad to see this happening, and both parties directly benefit from it: AMD benefits financially, and Intel restores their reputation with regards to these matters. Atleast they were bold enough to finally admit what they did was wrong and settle the disputes.

Now lets just hope we have a fair competition between all the manufacturers, it benefits us. Everything seems to be going good in this regard, but oh snap! theres a company named nvidia. hmm

Dont take any offense by the nvidia thing, its simply a fact and even I hope they recover their tarnished image and bring out their next generation graphics cards, that benefits us too.

    Good news!

Intel's deal was like.. If you use AMD then you wont get discounts.
Plus We will pay you not to use AMD!

Now who on earth can refuse an offer like this?

What I meant by the nvidia thing is that all the other companies are being quite fair, settling disputes and generally being, should i say nice. Nvidia are losing their reputation, spreading marketing BS and paying developers to handicap their competitors products to show them in a better light

I really hope they bounce back, get some kickass products out in the market and stop the marketing BS. It will help them immensely

Off topic tho, and to anyone whos confused, nvidia has nothing to do with the article

This should help AMD out a bit. I wonder when their CPU division will deliver better products. Their GPU side is doing a lot better.
