Default Need suggestions for home server

    hi,
I am planning to make a home server/seedbox. I will only download torrents and files. I plan to run the machine 6~8 hours a day(when I am out for college).

The setup is Intel dual core, 1 GB ram, Biostar mobo, Stock power supply,

I Wont use any monitor, keyboard, mouse, sound system (WIll control it via VNC)

    Here are some problems

    1. Do I need to upgrade my PSU? Would it die if it runs continuously for 6~12 hours?
    2. If the PSU dies, would it damage other things (like cpu , HDD etc.)
    3. What Hard disk should I buy ? I would like to buy no more than 80 GB (if its still available). Which brand will be good for handling this sort of load

    Thanks!

    1. It should be okay. I have seen stock coolers running for 18 hours a day and without any problem. and as ur system's consumption is low it should be okay.
    2. if psu dies, if the bulk capacitors explode and u have a top psu mounted system the electrolytic might fall on the system causing damage. otherwise no the power supply will just burn itself, and the system will be okay.
    3. 80GB? only? i will definitely suggest Hitachi. DON'T BUY SAMSUNG.

    1. Obviously you need a psu. .at least delta 300w server psu will do or tt litepower psus , the generic psu cant give proper voltage in your hdd and as a result you will have hdd failure or will have bad sector

    2. Hdd or mobo

    3. Minimum 160gb hdd , in this days every single file even games comes up with 20-30gb files and as you want to make it a seedbox pc so your goal will be store files for seed as much as you can, and for reference wdd black (you can hardly find them but available got myself one at 2nd hand market at 1.2k) or samsung. .dont know why redwan bro suggested to avoid that brand but my samsung hdd still kicking ¤¤¤ for last 4 years read and write speed are also decent highest 120 and average 80-100 read/write speed

    * as i also have a seedbox pc and from that experience all i can say that 1gb ram isnt enough , as i use tixati and utorrent as torrent client it uses more than 600mb from rams so 2gb will be enough

A good PSU is never a bad investment.
With that being said, you'll have no problems with a stock PSU whatsoever. Do not listen to these people who are relatively new with computers, though stock PSUs are unreliable when paired with a hogging rig, it should have no problems with that setup.
    So, 1. NO.
    2. 80 percent of the time it's just the PSU.
    3. No idea.

Seedbox? Look for a Socket P4 machine, preferably with SATA ports.
