Well I think you do need to finish your O's first. You have to show that you are proficient in English.

A friend of mine once saw a job in er hmmm..."marketing". He was asked to sell Dictionaries and Encylopedias. lmao.

What I know that the job sector of ours(Naval architecture and marine engineering) is very good. Most of our elder brothers got job and some even before completing their study! And some went outside for completing their masters and doing job there. Don't know what will happen next as I am 3 and half years way to complete my graduation.

    For secondary use: E2160 OC @2.2Ghz| Gigabyte 945GCMX| 1.5GB DDR2| Thermaltake 400w| Intel GMA 950

    Default Re: Jobs in BD

i can give you some ideas. i am an yearmate of himel(though senior). i am doing a job for 8 months. previously i used to work as a free lance programmer. now i am working as an embedded system developer and also programming.

its true that the job sector for engineers here in BD seems gloomy. lets explain why:

first of all bangladesh is not the place for engineers with a above average potential or ability. reason is simple. here we deal with technologies that is almost dying in modern world. except for some IT farms and one electronics farm, i do not think any of the compaqnies deal with cutting edge technology.

we, here in bd, only do the monitoring jobs and once in a while some easy trouble shooting job. we do not invent technologies here, we simply buy it from abroad. and in the case of complicated troubleshooting we seek from engineers from vendor companies. most of our jobs are like 'a nutless monkey can do that(tropic thunder )'

guys from good public universities have that lack of patience and composure. all they look for is better salary. they change jobs for 5000 tk salary increment. so companies do not trust them anymore. i have almost strict order from my management 'DO NOT RECRUIT ANYONE FROM BUET'.... but i had to disobey this several times while recruiting people.
and these guys usually do not have long term plans for staying in BD.

for civil and mechanical engineering, simply put, we do not need 500+ of those each year. BD can not afford them. and even in next 30 year there is a little chance of the creation of job sectors for them.

for engineers from private universities, cse is not bad. and i have found numerous people coming out from nsu, brac, aiub, iut who are really good in programming. if they work planfully with a little bit of patience and if they can avoid going abroad for staying, they can practically change the software developement scenario of BD.

but then again, guys who are really good in programming like compiler construction, algorithm developement, package developement, regression analysis....... they have to leave BD to get a minimum level of job satisfaction.

for EEE/ETE engineers from private universities, i am sorry to say, only 10% of them may have the quality to tell theirselves engineers. among then 5% may be eligible for doing a job. ya, they can go on with the configuration jobs of telecom companies.

It is not their fault actually. It is due to the incompleteness of the curriculam, lack of projects in undergraduate level, due to the option of escaping thesis and also due to business minded subjects called ETE.

I persoanally took interview for jobs in my office. i remember a guy from BRAC ECE with a cgpa of 3.6 telling me that he has no idea about how GPS works and what is 3G.

but overall, due to global economic crysis no new sections for engineers are opening in BD. and the present sections(like telco, power generation, transportation) are saturated. I only see good hope for people from CSE/CSC (both public and private). Just one advice for them, do not look for starting salary, but look for a place which will encourage your brain storming.

    ---------- Post added at 15:14 ---------- Previous post was at 15:06 ----------

and about engineers of power section(generation, transmission and distribution) i do not know much,u better ask galib vai. he knows way better than me.
