    Default GPU temparature....is it unsafe?!!!

    Hellow guys

    I hv been using ATI Sapphire 5850 for past 3 years. ATM my idle temp is 53-57C and max temp goes as high as 82-86C. Is max temp of 86 unsafe for the lifespan of the card. I want to continue using this card for at least one more year. Should i be worried abt my max temps?

    Thanks for ur time
    Peace

    no i think. but try to keep below 80c to be on the safe side. u may try cleaning heatsink, enhancing case air flow, using aggressive fan profile in msi afterburner.....

    Is your ambient temp high? 53-57 is high for idle temps even for the 58xx generation. 82-86C is too high for load temps under stock temps/cooling system. Check the heatsink and TIM (Thermal Paste) underneath. Either ways even at that temp it should work for another year unless you have other factors contributing to lowering the lifespan of your card.

    Clean the case. Take out everything and thoroughly clean it with rag(non-cotton) or brush(synthetic) or blow it with a blow-drier or something. Computer market e onek dokanei thake. Clean the back of blades of the fans. A lot of dust reside there hindering the fan slower. If your card's a 2gb variant, you bet there's memory chips on the back of the PCB. Clean them too. And if you like, brush the heatsink, scraping the dust. If you are using the default AMD cooling, I have nothing to say . Also reapply thermal paste if you like. Use spirit(from phermacy or something) and non-cotton clothes. Keep watch of the dust residue in spring and mid-summer season as alot of dust is in the air at that time. Open the case once, atleast three months to check dust and spider webs. And use dust filters(don't ask me where to find'em) if you use alot of case fans.
    My probable next build: Qisan MagicForce 68 (Outemu switch) / Teamwolf Zhuque+ 87 TKL (Outemu) / Monoprice Select series full size (Outemu/Gateron) / Drevo Gramr 84 TKL (Outemu) • Logitech G102 Prodigy • Deepcool Dukase V3 / Thermaltake Versa U21 • Superlux HD 681 • Creative Sound Blaster E1 • LG 22MP68VQ • SteelSeries QcK • Generic executive chair • others TBA

    Wat are the other factors that can shorten gpu-lifespan?

    My idle temp used to be around 56-62C. Then i applied thermal paste two weeks back and idle temp went down to 46C for a week. After a week it again went up as high as 58-62C. Recently i mounted two 120mm tt thunderblades to my generic casing and now my idle temp stays at 52-54C.If i reapply thermal paste frequently but properly, will it hurt my gpu?

    Atleast it stays cooler than a Leadtek GTX 560 Ti

    Is your card a reference model? 56 degrees when the card's idle is too much, even for a reference design. What thermal paste are you using? I'd recommend nothing below the Arctic Mx-2 for optimal thermal transfer. Did your card come with thermal pads for the memory chips? I'll be visiting Dhaka again next week, maybe I can come by and take a look at your card.

    @flame.alchemist , instead of applying and reapplaying lo-quality TIM, use a good TIM and be happy. Arctic makes some COOL TIMs usable for both GPU and CPU.

    @Fox Mulder , mine's only 40c at idle.

    Just increase the fan speed. It will lower the load temperature.

    U r most welcome I am using Sapphire 5850. Btw Arctic Mx-2 kothay kinte pawa jay? Price kemon hobe?

    68% is not that high. You can obviously go higher than that. say 82%. And naaah I don't think it will burn the fan.
