Default Nokia Mocks iPhone 5C Design, Says It Copies Lumia

Yesterday, Apple unveiled to the world two new iPhone models, namely the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, which finally bring some more color to the company’s lineup of smartphones.

To be more precise, iPhone 5C was announced in a multitude of colors, which made Nokia react and start mocking the Cupertino-based company.

Their reason is a simple one, as the new device appears to resemble a lot Nokia’s Lumia smartphones, which also come with colorful shells.

The Finnish handset vendor took it to Twitter to post a photo of its smartphones with the tagline “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” The company also added the following message to the image: “Thanks, Apple.”

Nokia enthusiasts have started to post similar messages on the microblogging network and on other sites, claiming that the new iPhone 5C resembles a lot the Nokia Lumia 620 that was launched in December.

In fact, even the press photo that Apple has posted for the new smartphone is somewhat similar to that published by Nokia when it unveiled the Lumia 620. You can see both of them below.

All in all, the two devices do seem to resemble a lot, especially when you consider the choice of colors that both companies went for.

However, there is one aspect of the deal that some people might have forgotten, and which is of great importance here, in Apple’s defense.

The new iPhone 5C sports looks that resemble a lot those of iPod touch 5th generation, which was launched last year. Basically, this would mean that Apple only continued using the same design over various products.

On top of that, there’s also a design resemblance between Nokia’s Lumia handsets and Apple’s iPod nano 4th generation, which featured a curved body when launched back in 2008. iPod nano 7th gen, launched last year, continues on the same pattern.

All in all, it might seem like each of the two companies is entitled to claim that the other vendor has copied its design, and both appear to be right. The photos attached to this post should speak for themselves.

From my point of view, today’s market is so crowded with devices that there’s little room for actual innovation design-wise, and situations like this cannot be easily avoided, if at all.

However, that’s only the way I see things, and you may have a different opinion. If you do, please don’t hesitate to share it with us in the comments section below.

I think apple has lost the innovation edge. Few years ago they decided the trends. Now they just copy. The notification center, control center and multitasking swpie etc etc are all copied from Android. This is not Steve Job's apple.

Only thing i still like about iPhone is its camera and cpu. Quite superb. But iOS and the phone hardware itself (like display) are no longer trend setters. Damn at one time, people were impressed to see retina display. No one saw that before. Even 3.5 inch screen in original iPhone was so revolutionary. But now Androids are way better.

well, you have to understand that apple had very little competition b4 android came along. and with it came an army of manufacturers... while apple has to alone compete both on the hw side plus sw side. sony and nokia does wonders with the camera tech... samsung has its own cpus and memory and screens. then you have MS coming in the battle with its windows brand and the promise of desktop goodness with it plus xbox integration. i mean with sony, htc, samsung and nokia all working against apple, it would only seem natural to feel that apple is no longer innovating... it's hard to innovate when there are so many others going at the same thing... i mean, apple doesn't meditate and get ideas from the cosmos or anything... they hire really good engineers and stuff to get their work done and the others are doing the same.... plus, did you see the new mac pro... astonishing how they could fit all that muscle in the wastebin...

Actually the finger print reader is a huge trend setter, in a year or two you'll see every other phone having one as well. When I first used a finger print reader in my laptop, I loved it for a while, but it's poor implementation and bad functionality made me remove them all. Compared to that, Touch ID is gold and years ahead of facial verification software which are duped by ordinary pictures.

There's not much left to do with the display right now (resolution wise) because it's not needed. If iPhone 6 is a bigger phone than we'll probably see IGZO displays and much better battery life. Even if they increase pixel density, I still won't be surprised because that is a completely normal move. I suppose holographic 3D tech will be the next thing to impress everyone.

I'm not really disappointed with the 5S because I knew this would be it. The 64-bit OS did surprise me, but it'll be beneficial later. I've been considering switching for god knows how many months, and everytime I keep reminding myself that I will be missing out on. And other than camera tech, there's really not much to look for in the competition.

    FTFY.

iPhone camera is nothing out of the ordinary.

The atrix one looks like the one from my laptop, it's garbage. It'll be a hit because it's done right.

Ami sure Apple next year display size and resolution barabe and then it will say, see it is revolutionary !!!! So if you really think display niye r kisu kora jaabe na, then you shouldnt buy the next iPhones if they have bigger screen

Finger print kono big breakthrough na amar mote. Aita mainstream hoteo aro 6 years lagbe. Look at NFC. USA teo akhono NFC payment er temon bell i nai. R fingerprint diye kaaj kora to aro porer jinish.

Oder akhon uchit iOS er functionality barano and display ta aibari boro kora uchit silo. 4.5 inch display is bare minimum these days. You can comfortably hold it. And they should use standard 720p or 1080p resolution instead of a custom 680p or sth that is not really 720p. Apple er aishob jinish khubi bogus laage.

yes, i really don't get their display resolution. should be sth standard like 720p. apple already stands out pretty well for their iOS and their brand name, they can easily standardize some stuff... maybe the have the weird resolution so that copying will be hard or sth like that..

That is kinda subjective and situational. All flagship phones (except L920/L1020) take similar quality pictures. One is better than the other depending on what you are shooting.

No. As much as I do-not-like apple, their phone size is perfect. Even my L920 is pushing it. Anything larger than that is plain idiotic; you look like a moron when talking with that "phone/phablet."

Also, anyone without long fingers have issues holding large phones.

Ajkaal copying kora kono bepar na. This trick might have worked earlier when app portability was an issue between platforms but nowadays developers are easily building both iOS and Android apps.

iPhone has better camera output. Their lens is very good. Try shooting at low light with iPhone 5 and galaxy s3/s4.

No have you used HTC One S? It has 4.3 inch and it is super small. Very comfy.

Hell even girls can use HTC One X confortably with one hand.

You L920 doesnt have good ergonomics, which is why you dont feel comfy. It is made like a box, like xbox. The size of display is not issue here. anything less than 5inch is not even phablet. Aikhane moroner kisui nai. Dara duniyar manush galaxy s3/s4/htc one kine fatai feltese. note is big you can say and not comfortable for one hand but s3/s4 is super comfy. Ami saradin one hand e use kori and I dont have large hands or fingers.

How is including a bigger screen revolutionary? I won't be impressed even if they do, and they won't claim anything revolutionary either, they'll at most go nuts over how beautiful it looks. I don't mind 4.5" as long as its designed right with very thin bezels. The width is the only complaint I have about the iPhone 5, height is fine for me.

And the inclusion of the fingerprint reader in the iPhone now makes it mainstream. NFC is a joke and an example of innovation for innovation's sake. One of Apple's patents revealed an NFC + Finger print home button, if that comes to light then there might still be hope for it.

I think iOS is a crippled operating system. As long as they don't implement changing default apps for browser/calendar/music player/video player I have to keep jailbreaking. And even though I carefully install only a few tweaks, jailbreaking hurts performance and reduces battery life.

Yea but that's usually because the simplicity of whatever it is they added appeals to everyone/most.

bitpirate pointed out one of the biggest flaws in the iOS system. Changing default apps would have been great especially the browser. Safari is done very well for phones though, so not much to complain about there, but having the option to switch permanently to Google Chrome and have it sync across all my devices would be great.
