yes u should use ES File Explorer.
Access SD card from PC: Turn on ES..go to tools and then remote manager..an IP will be given to you..use this ip in your Windows(My computer) location bar..you can access your files then

Access PC from ES File Explorer: You need to create a homegroup in Windows. Go to LAN tab in ES and tap on Scan. It will find your pc..

I prefer x-plore as file manager. Connect your phone to your pc/laptop. Then in x-plore go to lan>add new>scan
it should find your pc. Enter your windows username/password.
To share a folder/drive, in your pc, go to properties>sharing and allow sharing. You should see that folder now in xplore.

You can also use ftp server. Download and install filezilla server, then add user/share folder.
    Add ftp in xplore.
I usually get better speed in ftp than lan. Though you can not stream movies/songs in MXPlayer in ftp.
Btw, you can do this in ES File explorer too.

+1 for the ES File Explorer. It is the best android file manager. You can use it to explore shared files from your laptops and desktops over wifi home network.

To make your phone files accessible over wifi to download and upload, you should use Samba File Sharing Pro. It will allow you to password protect the access to your phone.

If your Wireless Network card supports creating ad-hoc network, that should do it.
