Buy which has N feature. but be careful some router will have N* like this. Do not buy those. For example: TPLINK 741 router. N* means it has some N features but not fully N supported. In low price, my suggestion goes for the TPLINK 720 router. Price: 1,300/= with 1 year replacement warranty.

Been using a cheap TP-Link 740N router for more than a year, never faced any heating issue.

    chk this link

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16833704147

at the bottom you will see product comparison chart..720 comes with 2 ethernet ports while 740 comes with 4 and IMO i think 740 will be more capable in providing support for devices more than one, in my case my 720 only has to support my smart phone and a loptop occasionally. so i went for 720 as its cheap good option for me. on the other hand if you need constant support for may b 2/3 devices at a time, then you might go for 740 or even better, for stable performance under stress.. so it depends on ur usage

and yeah me too a noob just sharing my observation

i use the 741nd and it gets quite warm but not hot enough to hang or to drop packets[ping breaks or is inconsistent]. but, just the other day, i had 7 wireless devices simultaneously active at my home the i had to reset the device like every 10-15 minutes as it would drop packets. so that proves it's not so good with many devices at once. though the lan port was completely unaffected... and please know that the lan port is a 100Mbps one meaning u get a max speed of 12MBps when [i avg at 10MBps] during a lan file transfer and the 'n' wireless transfer speed is of max 3-5 MBps. and wireless transfer speed varies quite a lot with distance.
if you want quality, go for a bit pricier model of tplink.
i think excel technologies ltd does tplink. its at level 6 in multiplan. correct me if i am wrong guys...
