Thread: Playing games during Ramadan!

  1. #1

    Default Playing games during Ramadan!

(I don't want to sound like a racist)As majority of the gamer in this country are Muslims, I thought it would be a good thing if I opend this little thread.
As Muslims we all know that listening to music(except which are permissible), is Haram. Watching any movie with inappropriate content is Haram. And a game is contained with both.

I used to play all kinds of games, out of ignorance. But this year I am trying to get all the benefits out of Ramadan, and in the process be a good Muslim.

Playing games is Haram in another sense that it kills your time for no purpose(our purpose is only to serve ALLAH), it distract you from the real world. But it is ok to play games as long as it doesn't come between ALLAH and you. Whenever its time for Namaz, stop playing and start praying, and you should be fine.

These are the few things you should do while playing games, not only during Ramadan but all the time. But even I find them hard to follow, anyway :-

    1. Always turn off music, only keep the effect and voice on.

    2. Don't play while Azan, and go for Namaz immediately.

    3. Don't play games with inappropriate content(female with revealing cloths, sexual content, too much violence, games which offence you Religion, etc)

    4. Prefer always the games free from any religious and political elements.

    5. Always prefer the games where Haram things do not overweight permissible things.

I am sorry and may ALLAH forgive me if I am wrong in anyway.

I wold personally recommend to stick with cod,css and car racing games only.

COD is an extremly politically and religiously motivated game thus it would clash with your ideals. Unless you only play cod multiplayer.

Listening to music is not at all haram. It is said that your music should be kept at such a volume that it does not reach the ears of your neighbours. In that case, it becomes bad. Also all types of music, understandably, should not be heard. Lyrics which have cursing for no reason, talk of sexual encounters and such, should not be heard by muslims.
However if you are listening to songs it is not a sin and you are not doing anything haram.

Ya, that's why I asked. Its a surprise, a gamer who act as a IMAM too. This is the kind of balance we all should have.
If we can bring this kind of balance into our life, then the misunderstanding about ISLAM wont exist anymore.

I've read a lot online. You can google it obviously. Don't believe everything you hear. Allah has encouraged us to seek out the truth and only then accept it. Do that and read online. And think about it. Music is frowned upon because it is said to take you away from the path of Allah. At concerts and such there is a frenzy, people behave strangely, they dance together, which is not halal. But if you listen to music softly in your own home, good music which does not have bad words or bad implications, then why should it be forbidden? If you are listening for recreation, to soothe yourself, away from prayer time, why should it be haram?
Music itself is not haram, but things which accompany it such as dancing can be considered to be so.
DO NOT believe this post blindly, I am using my own opinion. If you think about everything Allah has forbidden like alcohol, pork, drugs, it is easy to see why, but does it make sense for Music to be haram? In my opinion, no.

Good thread and very timely too, @muscle .

I think the idea is to find a healthy balance as you have noted in post# 11. All things in moderation and in harmony - will help keep the self away from temptations towards evil.

I just want to put an FYI regarding music (scholars will know a lot more) - if music is so haram, why did ALLAH SUBHANATA' ALAH bestow upon HAZRAT DAUD (a s) such a beautiful voice that when he used it, the world around him would stand still. Man, beast, birds, insects would be drawn to it. HAZRAT DAUD (a s) is one of those handful of messengers amongst a line of many whom was also bestowed the position of having a holy book descend on him.

However, as put forward by muscle bhai, better safe than sorry. Better to follow a safer ground.

    Ramadan Mubarak to everyone.

I didn't think this post would get this much responses from the gamers here. I though a few would read and majority would just ignore it. But I see gamer are better Muslims than non-gamers.
There is a very clear reason for it too(according to me), we spend more time inside(home/game cafe) than outside. And in our limited ADDA, the only subject is GAME. So I guess we are better persons than, non gamers who are always taking about GIRLS and DRUGS, cause they don't have any thing better to talk about, unlike ofc us.

I am so happy i opened this thread. I hope more people will see this and this time they will not only fast, but know the true purpose of fasting.
KOTO JE SOWAB KAMAI NILAM AI SUJOG-e aitakei bole sujuge sot babohar.
