Thread: From Holland

  1. #1

    Default From Holland

I'm new to Bangladesh. I'm from the Netherlands, where I enjoyed a ridiculously good internet connection compared to anywhere in the world.

But now I live in Dhaka (Gulshan), and this is a different world when it comes to internet. In fact I can't download the games I own on Steam, because it would break the Fair Use Policy of 35GB/month within days.

In Europe I was mostly playing QuakeLive online. Now I wonder what internet connection is the best possible here? I heard something about Bracnet, but what is that exactly?

Other question regarding monitors, are there any decent 120hz monitors on the market here for a reasonable price? Or are they all very expensive because of the special TV tax?

This is your first post, welcome to BG and welcome to Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a developing country and the internet connection is.. well... expensive and slow compared to other parts of the world. I don't think you'll get a 120hz monitor for a reasonable price because things are very, very expensive here. I doubt you would find a 120hz monitor here. Especially TVs and monitors are waaayy expensive here.

And you would get very high ping.

Yes, but QuakeLive has some servers in Singapore that might be somewhat stable.

Besides that I know some people from Turkey that actually managed to convince id Software to get an official gameserver in Turkey. So maybe in the future one for Dhaka might be possible too (needs a lot of players tho).

But which providers are the best? Does Bracnet actually build a private line from a node to your house?

If I'm going to stay here for really long I guess I'm gonna bring my monitors from home to here then.

    Welcome to BD
I guess you are using Banglalion or Qubee Wimax. These are not for gaming as your ping will be higher, and there is the fair usage policy too. So you should get a broadband connection. my suggestion is Link3..contact them..you will possibly get the best ping with link3 in dhaka..

Welcome to BD and BG. As the other guys suggested, take a broadband connection(link 3 should be your first choice) asap if you are in for stable speed,No FUP and good ping to play online games. Enjoy your stay in the country and the forum.

Thanks, I'll talk about Link3 with the other internet users here, although I'm the only 'heavy' user currently. I could crush the Fair Use Policy every month without even downloading torrents... So maybe they will agree to Link3 when I put them on Smallband every month

Yeah, it's a developing country, but it's developing really fast.

When I look at Bangladesh it is very similar to Holland: many rivers, flood problems, potential for a lot of trade and wealth, we have Rotterdam you have Chittagong, etc... So Bangladesh will become very important in the region I think.

Don't use wimax. It is only suitable for casual users.

Take any wired connection (like link3, smile/bdcom, ispros etc). There is no FUP in these and upload speed is not 10kBps unlike wimax craps. I only buy games from steam and never faced any issues.
