    Default The Freeware Topic.

    This thread is for people to post links to their favourite freeware programs.
    The software can be for any format
    With a brief description of what they do, or what paid software they replace.
    Simple

    Only FOR WINDOWS.

    ..::Audio Softwares::..

    Spotify:: Genius, Free music streaming application, works just like itunes etc.If you have never used it before, you will not know how you managed without it.

    Tunatic:: Ever used the TrackID feature on a Sony Ericsson mobile phone?
    Try Tunatic instead for identifying music and it won't cost a penny

    Foobar:: Probably the best music player there is. Has loads of plugins so you can configure it just the way you want

    Winamp:: yes, only the basic one is free... but do you really need that extra crap they shove on the premium versions?

    Songbird:: Multi Format music player

    Last Fm:: Free music streaming service that creates radio stations based on your musical taste

    Audacity:: Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.

    Damn Small Media Player:: Damn Small Media Player is a useful and very lightweight application that was designed in order to help you listen to your preferred MP3 music files.

    ..::Image Related::..

    Picasa:: A great free alternative to IPhoto

    Paint.net:: For those unfamiliar and want to give Photoshop a run. It's basic in parts and while it isn't as complex as Photoshop, this is completely free and it'll get the job done for any job you want doing if you're a beginner.

    Inkscape:: An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X

    Blender:: FACK - how did no one mention Blender? It's so awesome - tiny and just as capable as professional 3D applications at a fraction of the cost (free, of course). Blender is awesome, it's not even supposed to be free.

    Gmax:: Gmax 1.2 is a free video game modeling tool.

    Sketchup7:: Well now, Super, seeing as you've posted one of your modeling programs, I'll post one of mine,

    Gimp:: I have not tried Paint, but my wife is a graphic designer and she say's Gimp is pretty good, if a bit basic. But she is using Creative Suite 4 so i guess thats a fair comment Gimp is an Alternative for Adobe Photoshop.

    ..::Web 'n' Work::..

    Open Office:: Free Office suite a very good alternative to Microsoft Office, opens all MS Office Documents.

    Firefox:: A very popular, customisable Web Browser

    Opera:: A multiformat Web Browser, I am using it now

    ..::Video::..

    VLC Media Player:: Plays pretty much anything, excellent alternative to Qucktime Pro, Windows Media Player and Real Player.

    Any Video Converter:: Quick and easy video conversion tool

    Gomplayer:: Plays pretty much anything, excellent alternative to VLC and the rest.

    ..:: System::..

    ImgBurn:: Free disc writing software. Really easy UI. Allows for burning ISOs as well. Worth it for the noise it makes after a disc is written.

    Advanced System Care Free:: Registry cleaner also gets rid of unused files and searches for spyware and helps keep your pc running smoooooth

    Partition Wizard:: Powerful Windows Hard Drive Partition Utility

    CCleaner:: I'm sure this is well known, but for the uninitiated, this program lets you get rid of temporary files swiftly.

    Recuva:: A great recovery utility.

    7-Zip:: 7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio.

    ..::Misc & System Tweaking::..

    Magic ISO:: MagicDisc allows you to use almost all CD/DVD image without burning them onto disc.

    CPU-Z:: CPU Z- tells you everything about your processor.

    RivaTuner:: GPU Overclocking utility.

    GPU-Z:: GPU Z- tells you everything you need to know about your graphics card, including essential temperatures and vital specs

    Driver Sweeper:: Driver Sweeper- allows you to prevent system crashes due to driver issues, this completely rids your system of any remaining driver files allowing you to install new ones without worry

    Tweak Now:: For Windows mother tweaking lovers, the suite provides more than 100 hidden Windows settings in the Windows Secret section.

    Pidgin/Adium:: For all your IM needs. Supports MSN, IRC, Yahoo and and various other instant messaging protocols

    X-Fire:: Xfire allows you to chat with your friends, see what games they are playing, what servers they are playing on and join them instantly with one click

    Thunderbird:: All your Email in one place

    ..::Games::..

    Need For Madness:: Fantastic freeware racing game.

    Trackmania:: A Fast paced Stunt racing game Download this !!! i got it today and it is bloody addictive

    Frets On Fire:: It's a clone of Guitar hero but can have new songs added and is fully modable, and you get to use your keyboard as the guitar, LOL

    ..::ANTi-ViRUS::..

    Avira:: I use this at the moment.

    AVG:: Popular Antivirus. Not recommended by me though

    Ad-Aware Free :: Real-time protection against spyware, trojans,
    rootkits, hijackers, keyloggers, and more!

    Avast! Antivirus:: I've used this for a year, they'll give you a free code to use it for a year.

    Spybot Search and Destroy:: Another great anti-spyware software. Best to have this and Ad-Aware installed.

    ::...OPERATING SYSTEMS...::

    Ubuntu 9.04:: Once you set it up to your liking it will work like a [free] charm.

    Linux Mint 7:: Originally launched as a variant of Ubuntu with integrated media codecs, it has now developed into one of the most user-friendly distributions on the market
