August 17, 2009 - Racing simulator fans rejoice! Logitech, the makers of the popular premium G25 racing wheel, have one-upped themselves with the brand new G27 Racing Wheel, which replaces the G25 as the company's flagship racing hardware. The G27, while practically identical to the G27 in terms of aesthetics, adds a number of functional improvements to the device, such as shift-indicating LEDs and additional programmable buttons.
The G27 maintains the core product features established by the G25 11-inch leather wrapped wheel, six-speed shift stick, dual-motor force-feedback, steel foot pedals, etc. but adds two programmable buttons to the wheelbase, bringing the total number of programmable buttons to 16 from 12. Additionally, Logitech has added an array of LED lights built into the frame of the wheel, which indicate when players are required to shift. The G27, like the G25, remains exclusive to Windows computers, PlayStation2, and PlayStation 3, however, we were unable to ascertain whether or not features like the LED shift indicators would function with console use.
The G27 will begin shipping this September for an MSRP of $299.99. For more updates, stay tuned to IGN Gear.
