Default Broadband vs WiMAX : What do you think?

I want all of your opinion from different points of view like a gamers side/downloaders side etc. Please share your opinion because its important to me.

Well I will tell you what I think so far. WiMAX is only good for mobile/laptop users and also can be helpfull in rural areas. In every other country, most of the people use Broadband for better speed and service. But as we are in Bangladesh and broadband sucks.... so a lot of broadband user may jump on WiMAX, what do you say?

Gov reduced bandwitdh cost and I think Broadband will give us more speed very soon. And WiMAX has a speed limit so the future of broadband looks good enough.

Now I dont know much about this like you do so help me out... as a Bangladeshi .. which one looks more promising to you? Do you think that WiMAX will affect on broadband business? Dont forget that WiMAX will have to fight with mobile internet where GP, AKTEL is very popular.

all depends on what kind of bandwidth they'll offer at reasonable prices. So I'll have wait for wimax service to fully start.

Wimax main goal is to bring true "Broadband" to your house. lol, the question should have been more like wimax vs fiber optic/ Lan.

The Wimax operators will not give you Mobile solution as you are thinking, they will give you FIXED solution, the wireless advantage is theirs as they will not need to dig the ground or pull wires over even more hazardous power poles. In this way they can bring a higher Quality of Service to your home with a cheaper price. BanglaLion will most probably die cause it has no idea what it is going to do, Augere seems like a smarter choice which has WiMax projects running in 5 other countries right now.

I am sticking to Fiber, as it will deliver me 40mbps speeds and someday even 1GBps (they only need to upgrade their headend equipment, nothing at your home to give you this extra speed). But if you are new customer moving from dialup, WiMax will be the ultimate choice, price/quality/performance ratio-te.

TS, you are spot on if you thought that WiMax has no significant benefit in developed and industrialised areas. At least, not yet, until the price to performance ratio implies otherwise.

But, that's not the end of the story, and it's not quite simple when it comes to regions with strong weather conditions and above-land cable/wiring deployments. WiMax, or anything wireless like a building transmitting 802.11 WiFi across a small area (it has got to be a damned good Wireless-N router), is immune to weather variations. I have just recently experienced a 2-day disconnection (due to the storm) from a temporary ISP I had subscribed to, and that very experience had convinced me to this conclusion.

So in the end, for Bangladesh, WiMax may not be the solution, but wireless technology (inclusive of WiMax, WiFi, HSDPA/3G/4G/UMTS) is.
