Cretek's graphics structure Cryengine 3 isn't coming for Pc only, but was also ported for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Against all odds Crytek is said to have succeeded in adjusting the engine to the limited hardware capabilities of the consoles - without having to accept many compromises.
Creytek's latest work, the Cryengine 3 has been introduced at the GDC (Games Developers Conference). There had been rumors that Crytek wouldn't be able to get the engine run on console hardware.
Now the developers claim to have completed the job. The Cryengine 3 will run fluidly on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 with graphics details similar to the mid or high graphics settings of the PC version.
Mark Atkinson, Crytek Director of Technology admitted that this task wasn't easy to fulfill:
The same speed for both consoles has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Atkinson explains that Shader intensive scenes are running a little faster on the Xbox while scenes with a lot of physics and particles are a little better for the PS3 because of the SPU.
But we will have to wait for some time until the first Cryengine 3 based games will be released. We are anxious to see the results.
