Terminator Salvation Producer Dan Lin has talked about a new Tomb Raider movie in the works. The new film will reboot the franchise and take a fresh spin on the character of Lara Croft, much in the way Star Trek has revitalised Gene Roddenberry's ailing franchise and Batman Begins kicked the caped crusader back into life.
The film will apparently be a character-driven action flick that plays out as an origin story for Miss Croft. A reboot featuring a younger Lara means a new star, so we've drawn up a shortlist of potential candidates for the job and why they'd be perfect for the role.
Let us know what you think by casting your vote in our poll and the winner will be unveiled in Issue 49 of Official Xbox 360 Magazine, on sale July 2.
Megan Fox
Why she's in the running:
Currently the 'hot' property now in Hollywood, after pulling the majority of the attention from massive robots in disguise beating the seven shades out of each other in Transformers. Chances are if the studio wants a bankable star for a potential new-franchise, Miss. Fox is it.
Eliza Dusku
Why she's in the running:
Playing a Slayer-gone-rogue in Buffy and currently a kick-¤¤¤ assassin in Dollhouse, Eliza's got the rough and tough edge needed for a globe-trotting Lara Croft as well as a attitude that'd easily match any muscle-bound action hero.
Michelle Ryan
Why she's in the running:
She's managed to erase the memory of her Eastenders career by starring in the new Bionic Woman series and making guest appearances in Doctor Who. If Hollywood wants to return to the start of Lara's tomb raiding days, Ryan would be the right choice (and she's British to boot).
Summer Glau
Why she's in the running:
With Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles cancelled, TV's own T-800 needs some new boots to fill. With a background in ballet she could pull off Lara's athletic moves, and the rigorous exercise regimes she put in for her fight scenes in Serenity show she's got the discipline to match.
Lena Headey
Why she's in the running:
Check out Lena's turn as the Queen in 300. She pulls off a quiet authority that could translate well into the stiff British upper lip that Lara would no-doubt be using when everything (inevitably) hits the fan as she is double-crossed during an adventure.
Evangeline Lily
Why she's in the running:
It feels like she's been tracking through jungles and fighting all-sorts almost as long as Lara, so it's about time Lily got her due and made the leap to the big screen. She might now be typecast as Kate from Lost, but she's got a)the stones b) the looks and c) the smarts to pull off a great Lara Croft.
Anne Hathaway
Why she's in the running:
Stick with us on this one. A completely left-field choice, but Anne's a great actress, managing to switch between comedy (Get Smart) drama (Devil Wears Prada) and portraying a ex-drug addict (Rachel Getting Married) easily, proving she's got the acting chops to do versatile roles. Why not let her try action heroine?
Olga Kurylenko
Why she's in the running:
Another 'hot' property who's working her way through a number of new flicks post-Quantum of Solace. She already has not one, but two game-to-film tie-ins on her C.V. However, those films were the critically panned Hitman and Max Payne movies, so perhaps it'd be third-time the charm if Olga is boosted up to leading lady status?
Chyler Leigh
Why she's in the running:
She might be best known for her role in television show Grey's Anatomy, but the fact is, Chyler Leigh was one of the few good things about 2001's Not Another Teen Movie, bringing both good comic timing and a innate sexiness to the role. If the new Tomb Raider movie favours a sense of fun and humour over gritty grave robbing, they could do a lot worse than Leigh.
Rhona Mitra
Why she's in the running:
Out of all the women that wielded Lara's dual pistols, Rhona's the only one aside from Angelia Jolie that's carved out a acting career and at the same proved she can take over from another leading lady, taking over the reins from Kate Beckinsale for the third Underworld movie Rise of the Lycans.
