Arrow (wireless) Router with Speed Management + PPPoE support!

What I wanna do is to increase my net speed to 256/256, hook it on a router (wireless preferably).
so that others in my home can login to the net when needed.

since these connections are general PPPoE (with username/password + mac binding),
I will require a router that supports all of these (with auto dial PPPoE).

I also want some form of bandwidth management for the connections from the router.

and finally, it'll be great to have a wireless router with one ethernet (rj-45) port so that
i dont need to buy wireless NIC for my own PC.

I'll be doing some google searching. just wanna know if anyone of you have
    any experience..recommendations..price-idea etc.
The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power.
Please do not PM me for support. You will NOT get a reply. Post in the relevant forum section.

I really dont know about the availability of routers in BD, but for a not too steep price, the good ones available here are belkin, netgear, linksys, buffalo, zyXEL and zoom. speedtouch is also ok, but the others mentioned here are better

I myself use a belkin router with 4x RJ-45 ports, and use one of them to connect to my computer since it cuts out a bit of latency and of course I do not have to get a wireless NIC card

Most good wireless routers will ship with one, or a few RJ-45 ports, so you shouldnt have a problem

If needed I can bring you one from here, let me know if u have any preferences

edit: I think for BD any basic wireless router should do, like this one

edit2: ok, sorry for skipping through ur post as i just realised u need some other features too like speed management, ill let u know about the routers

One of my friend use a TPlink wireless router ... current price is 3000 tk.

Its range is upto 54 meter. supports static IP/Dynamic IP/PPPOE with user name/pass. It has many other options like advanced security management. It has one WAN port and 4 LAN port so you wont need to buy adapter for PC (for upto 4 PC). This router is fully manageable that means it has built in options that can be moded via any browser.
I am using it right now (borrowed). You can take it for me for a test drive if you want. My final opinion is : this thing is enough for home use.
There is another router available for home users from dlink, price 4500, range 100 meter.

About bandwidth management: I dont understand what type of speed management you want, if you want to share your net line with others, then a desktop software like ccproxy can provide everything you need. The router above has some built in speed management system, never checked that out.

I wouldn't want other people to stop logging into net when my PC is turned off.

If you share your line direct from router (possible with this one) then you wont have to keep your pc running. Speed can be auto negotiated (when a new user connects, speed splits) or you can manage speed manually from router.

Just FYI, most midrange routers from a good company offer hardware bandwidth management to an extent, and if they dont u can always flash to a 3rd party router firmware which does allow bandwidth management

We used to have one in the Enercon office, CvP. I think you remember it. But I am not sure about the PPOE dial-up. But the other features meet your demand. It acts like any normal low-end router.

    okay.. another question..

if i use that router is it possible to use 2 separate PPPoE connection (e.g: [email protected] and [email protected]) and use together in a single/double pc??
    seeing is believing..

Nop using two connections is not possible.I use a Linksys WRT54G which has acess restrictions tab in which you can block certain programs/website/service for a list of pcs or block those pcs all together but it does not have manual speed setting like limiting a pc to 10kB/s when two pcs are using it router will split the speed automatically. Before buying you should download the router's manual from the internet and there you can see the options and features it has. That way you can choose the correct router for you.

I was about to recommend Master Chief's router. It is probably the most popular router to date and still recieves firmware updates. You can also install DDWRT firmwares in them and get even more functionality out of them. It allows mac address cloning and PPPoE dialer so that you can connect any device and use it. Don't know about speed management, but it's likely to be there.

I had a WAP54G and it constantly dropped connections, like every 2 hours I'd have to restart the modem. DDWRT firmware improved it a LOT!. I think even Linksys also recommends these firmwares.

@xCross: There are devices which let you connect two connections and double your bandwidth. But the last I checked up on them was on 2006, so I completely forgot the details. Maybe this'll help. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...s.cfm?t=190355

Its different and needs you to use 'load balancing'.

It depends on your type of connection but i highly doubt this guy from the whirlpool forum had pppoe connection so he did not need to dial to get connected.
Specialized routers can do it but they are expensive and don't think they are available in BD.

since these connections are general PPPoE (with username/password + mac binding),
I will require a router that supports all of these (with auto dial PPPoE).

Get a Linksys WRT54G (Open Source) router then mod it with DD-WRT..

yes I've done it in the lab. not much complicated process.
u have to configure the router.
read the router manual, there is detailed procedure.
u can set up, dhcp, ppoe any type of connection

at the top right, there's a search field. you can use that

if you have wireless/more-than-one-port router, after standard router setup (ask EMEM to do it for you; you are paying them after all),
you just connect other PCs and it just works.
