If u are a movie freak the large screen LCDs are okay.. but for gaming u need to have the best card to game in the monitors native resolution.

U need to look for these things ina monitor.

    1. Contrast ratio (higher the better)
    2. Response time (lower the better)
    3. viewing angle (Higher the better)

And beware of dead pixels. different brands have different policies. Some wont replace a monitor unless there are more than 5 dead pixels some replace even if there is a single dead pixel.

Defective pixels are pixels on a liquid crystal display (LCD) not performing as expected. Distinguishes between three different types of defective pixels:

    1. Hot pixels (always on)
    2. Dead pixels (always off)
    3. Stuck pixels (one or two sub-pixels are always on or always off)

Similar defects can also occur on CCD or CMOS image sensors in digital cameras. In these devices, defective pixels fail to sense light levels correctly, whereas defective pixels in LCDs fail to reproduce light levels correctly. More - HERE -

A 10ms response time is good enough.. but the lower it gets the better it is.

    Whats your budget?

For movies, get a screen with a 1920x1080(preferred), or 1900x1200 screen. The other factors have been mentioned in the previous posts

Default Re: need help buying LCD!!

I sorted out the monitors based on the image quality, the first paragraph will have the best image quality and the lower you go, the worse it is

First up, if money is not an object, the dell ultrasharp 2408/2409WFP and 2708/2709W (or wfp) models deliver arguably the best image quality, really they are ultrasharp. one step down would be the G2410 and W248WFP, which also gives exceptionally good image quality (i think they are available in BD?)

HP LP2475 is also a great monitor if youre looking for a 24" monitor, it gives an image quality which is almost as good as the ultrasharp dell, but not quite matching it

Then come the LG W2453/W2494D and W2753/W2794D series. They deliver outstanding image quality, and offer a 16:9 aspect ratio, along with the samsung T240HD and T260HD, which deliver very good image quality as well

The samsung 2493HM and 2693HM come up next, and offer similar image quality to the T240 and T260 but with more adjustments (pivot, height, connectivity etc)

the samsung t series are great for the money, and prices seem to be low in BD. get the T240 and NOT the T220 since u need atleast a 1900x1200 resolution for watching movies in high definition (1080p) and they offer very good image quality aswell

Finally, the ASUS VW266H and VW246H are also good 24" and 26" monitors respectively for cheap with very good image quality, im not sure about BD price but they are cheaper than the samsung T series abroad

edit: i know there are more monitors available (ie apple cinema display) but ive opted them out since the dell matches or surpasses it in image quality, and apples cost mroe for nothing. if ive overlooked some models, let me know
