Default Ryzen 5000 series discussion thread

    Let's talk about it here.
    Streamed video here.
    https://youtu.be/iuiO6rqYV4o

    Technical details from gamernexus
    https://youtu.be/n-AanO3Axzk

    Key points:
    1 . 19% IPC lift from zen 2
    2. Only 4 skews will be launched at first. 5950x, 5900x , 5800x, 5600x
    3. Price pont bumped in every segment upto 100$.
    4. They currently have no zen3 cpus for the most popular segment of cpu market "the 200$ cpu-segment"
    5. These are on the same 7nm node as the zen 2 basednupon. Not 7nm+ we had primarily speculated.
    6. Overall 24% performance uplift , which comes from IPC improvement and clock speed bump , costs no additional TDP.
    7. Last but not least, this is the moment what AMD promised about ,folks. Where, AMD objectively might surpasses intel when it comes to gaming

Not sure if #3 is correct. 5600X has 65W TDP, comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler, exactly what the 3600 non-X includes. So that would be a $100 price bump.

Pricing has exceed Intel it seems, lets see what the actual performance looks like. GN confirmed it has lowered overclocking headroom.

Yep true. It is wrong. Edited.
And amd is missing the 200$ cpu market.
And the most pathetic thing is, the highest price bump has happened where the customers are very much budget concerned.
I am sure if they have some commonsense, they would ultimately release a 5600 non-x version to fill it up.

Hopefully. The 5800X price jump is more crazy since a 5700X is missing completely.

Btw #6 needs changes. Majority of the uplift comes from IPC improvements and better Core Layout (8-core CCX instead of 4+4). Clock speed didn't change much, at least not on the all-core front.

Anyone did any x570 motherboard research? care to share what you found ?
Been out of touch for a long time on amd stuff.

I'm looking to ditch my aging 6700K and get a 5900x+new MB with better than decent vrm and at least 2 m.2

X570 tomahawk is great, the x570 unify and ace are great as well. If you don't need an extra pcie-4 lanes from the motherboard, the B550 series is pretty much the same. For cheap, the MSI B550 gaming edge is great, as well as the carbon. There was a massive B550 roundup a while ago, feel free to have a look:

If you want to run 2 NVMe drives, X570 is the way to go. X570 has 16 lanes of PCIe 4.0 while B550 has 10 lanes of PCIe 3.0.
Above are lanes the chipset provides btw. At least 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0 for one storage device will come from the CPU itself.
Here's the gigantic AM4 motherboard spreadsheet.

As for VRM quality, either check Buildzoid's recommendation on his main channel (Actual Hardcore Over Clocking) or Gamers Nexus video featuring him. Hardware Unboxed also did a roundup iirc.

Eagerly waiting for the availably of 5000 series CPUs (5600x or 5900x) and 3000 series GPUs (3070 or 3080). It is becoming frustrating.

I got two RTX 3080 Ftw3 Ultra. Sold 1 and Kept the other 1. Pre ordered with 3 different retailers. 1200$x3 tied up for 1 month or so. I am glad I didn't hesitate or I wouldn't have a card now. now f5ing my life away for a 5900x with no light of hope in sight.

You should expect relatively decent Zen 3 stock towards the end of January

I keep hearing some saying 5800 does better in gaming than 5900x do you really think its true. think it is something to do with how the dies are bonded together. Not sure. what's your thought on these 2 ?

i personally think 12core is the way to go for a bit more future proofing.

5900x is better in general, each core has access to more cache which more than offsets the inter CCD latency penalty

I’m guessing it’s sustained clockspeed is higher and the games Bing tested does not scale properly beyond 8 cores.

my next PC will have 12C. 8C should be decently future proof if buying a PC right now. Consoles are 8C but I believe games can only use 6. That’s gonna be an industry wide bottleneck for some years.

Anyone following Alder Lake , I just managed to get an 5900x after 4 months of waiting and also ordered an x570 -Asus Dark Hero 8). Now I am questioning if it's worth waiting till Nov2021 and get the AL+ DDR5 instead ..
