Default BTCL slashes bandwidth price to TK 4,800

BTCL has reduced rental for leased internet access through submarine cable from Tk 8,000 to Tk 4,800 per Mbps, effective from 01 April 2013. Discounts (15-35%) available for bandwidth above 50 Mbps. Govt educational Institutes will enjoy 25% discount.

DHAKA: The state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has reduced monthly leased rental bandwidth price by Taka 3,200 aimed at providing cheaper internet services to its subscribers.

“We’ve trimmed the monthly rental bandwidth price to Taka 4,800 from the exiting Taka 8,000,” S O M Kolimullah, managing director of BTCL, told BSS today.

The decision will be effective from April 1, he added.

The BTCL managing director informed that registration, installation and testing fee has also been reduced, and the subscribers have to pay a total of Taka 5,000 for the packages.

Earlier, the registration fee was Taka 5,000 while the testing and installation charge was Taka 5,000.

BTCL officials said the monthly rental price of per mbps bandwidth for Internet Service Providers (ISP) and other high bandwidth consumers have been fixed at Taka 4,800.

The high bandwidth subscribers would also enjoy 15 to 35 percent discount on their monthly consumptions, they added.

Besides, the government educational institutions and public universities would get 25 percent discount while 5 percent discount would be provided to training and research centres, government offices, and private, autonomous and statutory organizations.

The officials said other subscribers including individual user would also enjoy discount and cheaper package for their monthly uses.

Meanwhile, the telecom ministry is mulling to reduce the monthly rental bandwidth price further for the leased internet access through submarine cable by Taka 3,000 within June to spread the ICT based services to the grassroots.

Post and Telecommunication Secretary Abubakar Siddique earlier had told BSS that the government would reduce the bandwidth price further whenever its benefit would be ensured for the end user.

Officials said Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL), which maintains the country’s lone submarine cable, has already sent a formal proposal to the telecom regulator in this regard and recommended cutting 38 percent bandwidth price at user level.

The BSCCL proposed Taka 5,000 for per mbps bandwidth from existing Taka 8000 while Taka 4,200 for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Taka 3,800 for International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators.

Prothom-alo has it today. Look a the comments.
I want to ask also - will user prices go down?

All Link3 users call them up and pressurize them. I did that during the last price slash.

Check link3 fb group they already said they won't do this time, because they now use their own IIG and the slash is by BTCL IIG not for all IIG.
They already buy at far cheaper than this rate.

Yeah, I think only L3 gives the highest internet connection speed in Bangladesh.
No other ISP is near them.
