Thread: StarCraft

1. #1

Default StarCraft

Heya.
I'll admit, I'm not quite sure this is in the right section, I just joined today . I think this is a great site, but I'm greatly disappointed by the lack of a StarCraft:Broodwar forum, or even SC related threads. I realize though that not many people actually play the game on a competitive level in BD, as in they dont play it at gaming cafes and whatnot. I find this truly sad though, being an avid StarCraft player myself. I used to play WarCraft 3 and DoTA a lot, and was in love with both, till I by chance stumbled across a few videos of StarCraft being played on an insanely high level in korean progamer tournaments. Since then I've been hooked. The game is truly far deeper then most people give it credit for. The amount of metagaming that takes place in StarCraft, even at an amateur level, is amazing. For anyone who has ever played StarCraft and knows the basic game mechanics, I suggest you watch this vid of a very popular progamer on the SC scene -
Yes, I know the graphics are bad, yes I know the game is really really old, but hell the game is literally the most simultaneously complex, balanced, and fun RTS I've ever played. And I've played many. I seem to be rambling on, so I'll cut to the chase . Me and a couple of my friends have decided to form an SC 'clan' of sorts, by the name of Indomitable. Our ultimate goal is to bring SC to all of the gaming cafes in dhaka. Our hope is that one day, StarCraft:Broodwar will be as popular as WC3 here in BD. Our short-term goal is to help each other improve, and get more members into our clan. Anyone whos interested in joining, or if you have any questions for me, please feel free to post here or send me a pm

Posting a link so that we can DL the game would be a great start i guess.

Its just [EB]. Not Elite B[a]stard or anything like that.

Ah, good point Heres a small download link, although I don't think campaign is included with this version of it, only the multiplayer and skirmish options seem to be available - http://files.theabyss.ru/sc/starcraft.zip

Here is a torrent for the full version, including both the original starcraft campaign and the expansion campaign Broodwar. http://www.mininova.org/com/1035623. You'd have to patch this version to the latest version though, which at the time is 1.16.1. For people who dont wanna download it by torrent, throw me a pm, if you live nearby maybe I could just give you the game on a DVD ^^

Besides, comparing Diablo to SC is like comparing halo to NFS. they're altogether different beasts

starcraft, just like warcraft, probably will fail to replace dota. still you can try. get the game installed in some cafe, and play regularly with friends. i guess some more will join in by seeing you play.

but when starcraft 2 releases the scenario might change.

Yeah that's what I'm gonna do...or try to do at least. And as for SC replacing DoTA, I don't really know. Me and a group of friends used to play DoTA almost religiously, like daily lol. But after we started playing SC together, suddenly DoTA just seemed too simplistic, too linear. Of course, you know what they say, different strokes for different folks. ^^

Probably the best strategy game ever created, but sadly no one plays it here. Maybe when SC II comes out.

I hate speculating pointlessly...but from what I've seen and heard so far, SC2 will probably be a fun game, but wont match predecessor in depth. But we can hope . Oh and don't get me started on Diablo 3. Not even out yet and already such a disappointment -_- graphics look like WoW.

I have to disagree with you there. They have actually delayed the game SOOOO MUCH because they want to add the competitive elements pros want. And they probably have had like over a hundred Q and A sessions by now. So, really, I don't know what you are talking about.

I'm talking about MBS, automining, and quite a few unit mechanics. Of course its all just speculation at this point, but im just saying, its how it seems now. Of course, I hope im wrong, a lot could change from now till when its released. And lets face it, Blizzard makes damn good games

i think MBS, automining, only 1 units casting spell in a group will b different 4m SC in SC2. i mean, if they didn't want these they wouldn't have introduced them in WC3.

btw, i played a couple of matches with reaper 2day. my record : played 3, lost 3. ^^

he plays WC3 regularly in Hell..... recently i am Dota fuching...

Yeah I guess WC3 and SC are close enough to each other in terms of gameplay that you can switch from one to the other and play quite well. Yet another incentive for some of you hardcore WC 3 players to try it out
