Default Need info about buying phones from AliExpress.

Have u guys bought any phones from AliExpress? If they ship a phone via DHL, what will be the tax method/rate while receiving the product in our country? Is there any method to avoid that? like getting the phone in a gift wrap or something? Please share your experience. Thank you.

Not a good idea. Even you get one cheap, you would still have to pay import duty/penalty usually through air port clearing agent. That's a nasty place to be in. DHL can clear on your behalf but will very likely charge an arm and leg + Covid19 makes it even more inconvenient. Bottom line stick to local store.

If you bring it using DHL/UPS or any other service that doesn't use BD postal service, then you have to hire a C&F agent to clear customs. In BD other than C&F agents only BD Postal Service has the authority to clear customs, an individual can not clear it.

So, if you want to bring it anyway my suggestion would be to choose Aliexpress standard shipping and pay the taxes once the product arrives at your house. But you never know what the tax amount would be, it could even be zero taka. And ask the seller to print reduced price on the label but usually customs open this type parcels and asses the tax using current BD market price.

I have not brought mobiles but I have brought shoes/circuit boards/displays and even a TV wall mount weighing 5kg using Aramex, I had to then find a C&F to get it out of customs, paid tax about same amount of the item price.

Thank you for your info vaia. I don't want to pay an arm and leg to get a phone. I guess I will have to find a cheaper deal from a local store.

C&F agents are kind of licensed companies who clear customs. They operate in all international airports/borders and ports. It is better not to go this route for items where the savings margin is very low. In addition to that if you use DHL or other services then there is issues like compensation for late clearing/bribe etc.

Can you tell me if it's possible to bring things like mouse skates(feet) and mouse buttons (Omron D2F/etc) from Aliexpress/Ebay, or would it be a big hassle? These things cost like 5-10$ max.

Yeah, without any issue. I have brought items like laptop motherboard, tv circuit boards, power banks, Bluetooth adapter, etc without any tax or hassle. But sometimes you may need to pay tax when you receive the goods. For example, I ordered many shoes, once I had to pay 1000 taka tax. But the shoe costs about 5k BDT and If I had to buy it here then it would have cost me more than 8/9k. So, it was worth it.

One possible issue is sometimes parcels get lost or the postman simply doesn't deliver. The work around is to make it registered parcels( the ones with valid international tracking number). Choose standard Aliexpress shipping method even if it costs you couple of extra bucks.

Oh okay, thank you for the advice. One more thing, is it possible to buy using a dual currency Debit card? Like an Aqua card from EBL? I don't have a credit card.

Thank you brother for your efforts but I may not go down that road unless I absolutely have to! But, still it's good to know how they work and their location. Thanks again- - - Updated - - -

What if the difference is big enough? Can you give me any rough estimate about their charges? I may not buy anything recently but it's still good to know.- - - Updated - - -

Bro, I don't know about Ebay but I have bought cheaper items from Aliexpress and they arrived without any issues. (Through standard/postal/free shipping method). I have even bought an earphone was about $30 but I messaged seller about my custom fees and he wrote the price tag as $3 on the top of the box.And about paying with the Aqua cards, I have heard people buying staff from Aliexpress using Aqua card, so you may be able to do the same. Although, I haven't bought anything personally, So can't say I am 100% sure. Off topic: I think the multi-quote option is not working in our forum, can you take a look?

It depends. You see most C&F agents would pray on noobs since they don't know what the actual duty for that product is. For items worth 10/20k they would usually charge 10/20% commission and above that it is negotiable. Customs duty also depends on value of the product. If it is a high value items then customs would charge you based on rates as per HIS code otherwise they would just charge based on gross weight of the items example 1000 taka per kg. It varies item to item/customs officer to officer/c&f agent to agent.

It would be a good idea to do some research on the product before going down this route. From my personal experience, not worth the hassle unless it is something unique or the savings is very lucrative(not couple of thousands bdt)

Thank you vaia. I will try to avoid this type of hassle unless I need something unique.
