    Default Vuze Beginners Guide

    Beginners Guide to Vuze<o></o>

    Disclaimer:<o></o>

    * If this guide causes your computer or yourself to die the author can’t be held responsible. <o></o>

    Use at your own risk!! No really!<o></o>

    *This guide cannot magically improve your torrent downloading speed. Torrent download depends on your ISP, Bandwidth, the torrent itself etc. So don’t start crying if you get very little improvement.

    *Some settings that can improve speed for some torrent can also decrease for some. So take care. <o></o>

    *I’m not going to show how to use hacks and cheats to improve your ratio. Cheating, anywhere in your life, is bad. Don’t want to start an ideology argument here: P<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Downloading Vuze:

    It seems very straightforward.
    Here’s a direct link to download Vuze: <o></o>
    http://cache2.vuze.com/files/Vuze_Installer.exe<o></o>
    <o></o>
    First Thing First:<o></o>

    Press Ctrl+,(comma) to open the Option Window. Click Mode on left. Click Advanced. Click apply. This opens up all the options for Vuze. <o></o>

    Take a look at the bottom-left of the option window. There’s a text box labeled “Search for Option here”. This is a nifty tool. You can use this to find a specific option to tweak by just typing it in that box. <o></o>

    <o></o>

    Selecting an Interface:

    Vuze has two interfaces. Classic and New. Classic sacrifices the friends list, Search System , Built-in content browser to save you a lot of memory. It’s considerably faster as well .You have to access Vuze HD gallery (which is very good and full of content btw J I always get awesome speed from it) manually at www.vuze.com.

    But if you have enough ram, I suggest that you keep using the new (default) interface. It’s sleeker and more productive in my opinion. Also I can’t live without that search system anymore. You can add your customized search engines too. We’ll discuss that later.

    <o></o>
    <o>> Some more Interface options:</o>
    <o></o>
    You can select your preferable interface in Options window. Go to Interface>Start.<o></o>

    Click show beside Display Vuze UI Chooser.<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Plug-ins: My Preference<o></o>
    There is a lot of plug-ins available for Vuze. But you need to be careful about what you download. Else you’ll be stuck with nothing but a memory conserving ¤¤¤¤ that doesn’t do any good. In my experience of Vuze I found out some plug-ins that really do help. <o></o>

    <!--[if !supportLists]-->1.<!--[endif]-->Ono <o></o>
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->2.<!--[endif]-->Mainline DHT ( give you access to another DHT beside Vuze’s own )<o></o>
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->3.<!--[endif]-->Lan Peer Scanner (scans specific range of IPs in lan or Wan for peers )<o></o>
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->
    <o></o>
    There are other plugins that can be useful too. Team Seeder, Zeroconf Seed/Peer Advertiser.DHT scrapper Experiment with them.
    There are some plugins that give you no performance boost but helpful anyway. e.g. Country Locator.<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Installing Plugins: <o></o>
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->1.<!--[endif]-->Go to Tools>Plugins>Installation Wizard
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->2.<!--[endif]-->Select By List from Sourceforge.com. Click next.
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->3.<!--[endif]-->Select the plugins you want. Click Next. Next. Click Finish.<o></o>
    <!--[if !supportLists]-->4.<!--[endif]-->Wait for the update window to come. Then Click install. After it finishes, restart Vuze. <o></o>

    Being smart about plugin management:<o></o>
    Vuze has some built-in plug-ins that you may not want to use. So why should you keep them hogging you precious memory? E.g. Embedded Media Player. If you don’t want em, unload em J . Go to Options (press ctrl+,) than find Plugins. Find the plugin you want to remove. Then uncheck it. Then click unload from below. Apply and Restart Vuze.

    And it begins: <o></o>
    I will post screenshots for each tweaking page. And describe what I’ve done, why I’ve done that.etc.

    Connection Settings:
    try to choose a port number between 49152-65534 to avoid conflicts and blocks.

    Encryption:

    Adjusting Internal Settings

    (TAKEN FROM EXTERNAL SOURCE )

    This involves taking a speed test, using the calculator to determine the settings that should be used and inputing those settings in your client. The most important setting is to cap upload at no more than 80% of your overall upload capacity as there needs to be room for communications to the tracker or else download speeds will suffer. Download could also be capped (at 90%), but this is not necessary as this is rarely an issue.

    Speed Test: Speedtest.net

    First the upload capacity of your internet connection must be determined by taking an online speed test. You should stop all internet activity, including torrents, before taking the test and the test should be taken a few times to obtain a reliable average. Speedtest.net has test locations worldwide and will highlight the one closest to you. Note that the result of Speedtest.net is in kilobits (kb) and bittorrent clients show speeds in kilobytes (kB). This is important as 8kb = 1kB. See Azureus-Wiki: Data Units

    Calculator: Azureus Upload Settings Calculator
    Once you have an average upload speed for your connection go to the online Azureus Upload Settings Calculator. Although designed for Azureus, this calculator will work for all bittorrent clients. Enter your average upload speed in the appropriate box and the calculator will automatically give the proper figures to adjust various options in your client. The location of these options in Vuze is identified in the Calculator.

    Windows/Linux at (Ctrl+,)>Transfer Mac at (⌘ + ,)>Transfer
    Windows/Linux at (Ctrl+,)>Queue Mac at (⌘ + ,)>Queue

    <o>
    </o>
    <o> to be Continued... (plugin settings and search engines )
    </o>

    :s I dont understand :s

    I took all the screenshots my self. here's the direct link to the gallery http://www.tinypic.com/gorush

    If you are refering to the screenshots in the settings taken from external sources. (which I quoted to avoid confusion ) they are ofcourse from external sources. I dont think thats confusing. As I wrote clearly that they are taken from external source.

    I hope you understand my sentiment. I wrote the guide because abir bhaiya, hitler and some other persons requested me for vuze settings. It took time to take the screenshots and write the texts. I posted this at 4 am at night. I had to sleep at 5 pm because of it. And all after these I came and saw your post.Your post (although complementary ) made it look like that I copy-pasted the whole guide from some site and claiming as mine. And that allmost nullifies all the effort I've put into it. Do you think my response is inappropriate ?
