    Default NVIDIA Provides Physics Technology For PLAYSTATION®3

    SANTA CLARA, CA—MARCH 17, 2009—NVIDIA Corporation today announced that it has signed a tools and middleware license agreement for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI). As a result, the binary version of the NVIDIA® PhysX® technology software development kit (SDK) is now available to registered PS3 developers for free download and use on the SCEI Developer Network.
    The NVIDIA PhysX technology software development kit SDK consists of a full-featured API and robust physics engine, designed to give developers, animators, level designers, and artists unprecedented creative control over character and object physical interactions by allowing them to author and preview physics effects in real time. The continued adoption of NVIDIA PhysX technology by the world’s leading content developers is resulting in games that not only look as realistic as possible, but also provides gaming experiences where the world’s literally come to life: environments become highly interactive with effects such as persistent debris, including shattered glass and weapons ammunition, trees that bend in the wind, and water that flows with body and force.
    “NVIDIA is proud to support PLAYSTATION 3 as an approved middleware provider,” said Tony Tamasi, senior vice president of content and technology at NVIDIA. “Games developed for the PLAYSTATION 3 using PhysX technology offer a more realistic and lifelike interaction between the games characters and other objects within the game.     All this on what people called a rehased 7800GTX. Of course the Cell plays a big part of it as well.

    and how much advantage this physics give to games?
    why doesnt fool ati use this technology?

    Porting of games is strictly upto the developers. Other firms don't play a big part of it.

    And, I doubt if nVidia will license it to Ati anytime soon, especially after the ¤¤¤-whooping they are getting from the 4000 series. Btw, the article does not mention that Physx was already done in games, but using software only. This new SDK will allow the use of the RSX (PS3's GPU).

    it IS a slightly modified 7800GTX.

    the GPU is already being stressed (games like RE5 are 720p, not 1080p).
    i wonder how shifting physX to GPU will help.

    All console games are native 720P or below (Halo3, CoD4 both are 600p) on the consoles. Killzone 2 is native 720P and 1080i, MGS4 is 720P, Uncharted is also 720P. Games which have a lot of action on screen will be running natively at 720P. I think only racing games can be natively at 1080P.

    I haven't seen the tech demo, but I'm loving the game. Maybe nothing new, but everything's done right. Intense action all throughout the game.

    "games like RE5" are ported from PC to PS3 and 360. And everyone knows how ports from PC to PS3 does right. Show me a game that's remotely close to what Killzone 2 and MGS4 is doing. RSX is not too powerful alone. But it wasnt designed to work alone. it was designed to work with Cell (unlike 360).God of War 3 is going to support 1080p. And GT5 already does. GT5,Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 are testaments to PS3s graphical horsepower. Aayman has both 360 and PS3. he knows what their difference is.

    Killzone 2 came really close to (and in some cases further) to that 'target render'. Sony never claimed Killzone 2 techdemo was realtime. Correct me if I'm wrong (with sources)

    If you guys are talking about the trailer released in 2005, then Sony admitted that it was all CGI, and that the game will be close to that when it's released.
