Now it should. CPU didn't have price.

My concern is about the SSD...

You might look into cheaper B-Die kits like this one

    https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-...-384-_-Product

Also, instead of the Sabrent might as well go for a 970 evo. Not PCI-E 4.0 but faster for random/sustained workloads and Samsungs tend to be the most reliable.

    https://www.newegg.com/samsung-970-e...-691-_-Product

There's also a ton of sales on the Gigabyte X570's this black friday so might save some money there. Can't go wrong either way tbh

Yes, i have both SSD listed. Leaning towards evo plus.

As for RAM, can that kit do 3733/3800 MHz at CL14/16?

    The CPU cooler is fine.

Not sure if the RAM clock speeds will sustain if you use 4 sticks. And why the old GPU?

    Opinion about cpu cooler?
3800 depends on silicon lottery as well. Not all CPU's can sustain a 1900 infinity fabric speed The sweet spot is 3600 C14 with 1:1 IF ratio, just use 1smus's ryzen dram calculator and try a fast preset with 3600mhz. Scaling isn't great after that anyway. Also as aayman said, 4 sticks/ranks will lower the speed. But in general most b-die kits behave similarly.

Also you might just get this SSD instead : https://www.newegg.com/western-digit...82E16820250110

He's getting four of those 8gb sticks and I agree, utilising 4 ranks does improve speed especially on Ryzen.

Might get this RAM instead: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-...82E16820232861

Cheaper; can get 64G (which i would prefer); lower cost and this kit can do [email protected] tho other parts of the timing is a bit worse.

All 3950x are better binned products so I'm hoping the one I'll get can at least do ~1866...

I just play Dota 2; Don't need new GPU for that. Also GPUs are very costly. I just need better processor for work.
Might get a new gpu next year. 980Ti is doing great for now.

Wait for the next gen Ray Tracing GPUs, the current prices are atrocious since Nvidia is having no competition from AMD whatsoever. And Intel is finally getting their asses handed to them with these new processors from AMD.

Any opinion about GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Xtreme? (apart from being expensive that is)

That particular memory isn't Samsung B-die, im guessing its Hynix CJR/CFR. To be honest, for the Ryzen 3000's its entirely worth it to not go B die and get Hynix, save the money for something else. Gains for B-die arent much, maybe a percent or two at max. If you want to go 4x8GB, and dont need RGB, get these (they are the same IC's)

Might also get the neo's in the 8GB version for 32GB

I actually just bought 2 of these...got sold out in newegg so i had to spend $5 more on amazon. Still a decent price

    I have one single question.

    If gaming, why Ryzen?

He mentioned he needs it for work. Also, there's little difference between the 9900k and anything above 3700X in gaming at 1080p and above resolutions. That too only with a 2080Ti to bottleneck the CPU. However for other tasks the 3950X is so far ahead its kind of silly.

If gaming, I'd not stay with 980Ti

As long as Dota runs @4k, I don't need anything else for game much. Only play beat saber (VR) apart from dota.

I need massive CPU power for running server/vm, program compilation (nodejs, react, java etc) and running multiple heavy IDE with many electron apps.

Also, security is extremely important. Intel f'd me up with their so many spectre/meltdowns that my 3770K is much slower compared to past. Not gonna fall in to the same trap again. When Intel fixes all these in a ground up new design, I will consider buying them again. Until then, I wont give them my money even if they perform better (in anything).

    Yes, it is CJR.

Money isn't a very big issue.

I think I will not limit myself to 32G. That's too big of a risk considering all the stuff I run (and have to run in near future).

    Will get either a CJR 4x16G ($350) or b-die 4x16G ($580). Don't care either way.

@Mazhar do you have any comments about Gigabyte Aorus x570 Xtreme vs ASUS VIII Hero in terms of:
    1. FCLK 1866+ ? (apparently gigabyte boards can't boot with 1900 FCLK)
    2. 4x16GB @ 3600/3733/3800 with CL16 (16-16-16-36) ? (notice the distinct lack of 4x16GB official support in gigabyte QVL list)

    For reference:
    Gigabyte QVL: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileLi...sse_190812.pdf
    ASUS QVL: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/m...QVL_190801.pdf

I am curious as to why you would want to run a server on your local machine, it will only get you so far until you are forced to rent something from AWS/GCP or at least get a proper server rack.

If it is just for personal testing a mainstream CPU would do the trick. Only time it makes sense is if it is for some hobbyist use, where user base will be small but not small enough for a 3700x.

Apart from the server your other requirements hardly need a HEDT, a mainstream 3700X should handle those stuff nicely.

When you have to run/develop/compile 10+ java microservices (soon to be 20+), big nodejs/serverless, a few heavy reactjs projects, 4+ jetbrains IDE, 10+ php projects with multiple dev env, not to mention PS/AI/XD and things to come (some 3D render, app dev; multiple VMs) etc, you need as much power as you can get.
While you can can handle these individually just fine with any mainstream processor, I don't have the luxury to open and work on one thing at a time. My current workflow is 5 windows virtual desktop (of 3 monitors). Each desktop is for one project related stuff; nothing is closed and I quickly switch between them.
If I have to open/close stuff every time i have to switch, I wont get anything done.

Things are in AWS already but having them in AWS during development is a drawback. Only causes delays and complicates debugging.
The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power.
