Good decision. Since you're buying it now, you're likely to get the 360's with the Liteon DVD drives in them. Modding a 360 does not mean soldering in a modchip of any sort. All it requires is flashing the DVD drive's firmware of the 360. Flashing it should be very easy if you are good with PC hardware, as all you'll be doing is opening the 360 (hardest part) and then connecting the drive to your PC's SATA port.

As far as I know, anything before the liteon drives can be flashed using the PC. But for liteons, you might need to buy another 360 DVD drive. All 360 motherboards works with DVD drives with specific "keys". What you'll be doing is extracting the key from your original liteon drive, and then replacing it into another DVD drive. I haven't kept myself updated on flashing 360 drives, so I don't know if there are other ways now (hopefully there are). To flash it from here, you'll need Tk5000. Not a lot if you consider how much you'll be saving by buying it from the UK.

I just checked, flashing the liteon drive requires a connectivity kit to extract the key.

Not a problem at all if you buy it pre-flashed or have it flashed.

Ya. I don't get it, we know PC gaming is better so why do they always feel this need to defend it. Consoles are for convenience and longevity. Plain and simple.

u wanna buy an X Box?... NOW?? why?? X Box 360's already 4 years old, its almost ancient.
PLAYING an x box 360 is okay, just fine. but BUYING one wud be a mistake, its a 4 year old machine, and theres already Wii and PS3 out there, so why wud u bother?
im guessin they'll probly be announcin the next version of X Box by the enda this year or early next year, then what're ya gonna do? i dont realize why people dont understand this, thats its quite old now.

i wud suggest to buy a Wii or more preferably a PS3. n if ya really wanna roll wid x box, just by the next one when it comes out, buying the 360 wud only be a loss.
i personally still remember gettin a playstation just maybe less than 2 yrs that the PS2 came out.
    just get a PS3.

You can see that he's talking about modding a 360. You cannot mod a PS3 yet. and if there's a new xbox, there'll be a new playstation. But no way in hell will buying a 360/PS3 now will be a loss even if you get only 2 years out of it.

if a theres a new xbox, there will be a new PS? well, theres already been a new PS(3), but still no new xbox, and thats what im sayin that theres GONNA be. so, if it were me i wud not buy the xbox.

but thats just ME. im no millionaire, and thats why i wud only opt for a proper investment, as i wont buy expensive consoles every two yrs. its just my view point in this one.
if he got cash to spare, he can buy an xbox 360 at will. but this is just my adivice.

however, given some time, PS3 will also become popular enuff in BD hopefully, and u will be getting appropriate mods n what not in time. and eventually local and imported pirated discs will be common if the price of 5000tk is too much, which it is. and regarding wii, i wud personally never buy it to begin with. but this is just my suggestion, as that is what i'd do.

TooCool, some facts you have not taken into account.... The XBOX360 was launched on November 22nd, 2005, which makes it a little over 3 years old, with the US economy in total disarray, it's highly unlikely that any new consoles will be coming to the market soon... and besides, the next Xbox will not be hitting markets until 2011, Microsoft itself confirmed that the current console cycle will be longer than 5 years. And who's to say the launch models will not be plagued with problems like RROD? And in the Bangladesh perspective, buying a PS3 is totally nuts, who has the money to buy a single game for 4500 bucks?

And get your facts straight, the PS3 and the XBOX360 are of the same generation, the 360 was an early Microsoft launch, why would Microsoft be releasing a new console just becase Sony was late with theirs? You're also forgetting the price and lack of availability of Blu-ray discs, even if a PS3 modchip is released, the pirated games will still cost a lot more than 360 ones because of the price of BLU-ray discs

mr_08 I'd recommend that you get your cousin to buy the arcade version, it's really cheap right now, and chances are high you'll get the jasper revision...

huh? You got your facts all mixed up. Do you think that MS launched the 360 to compete with the PS2???

Did you know that Sony had rushed the PS3 just because MS launched the 360 too early? If MS launches their next console 2 years later, Sony will launch one not more than a year after them. But I don't see how it's bad if you buy one now. You don't need to be a millionaire to buy a $200 console.

okay, 3 yrs / 4 yrs, its almost the same, i dont memorize the dates, im not a machine, bro.

with the US economy in total disarray, it's highly unlikely that any new consoles will be coming to the market soon
    yeah, yer right.

And in the Bangladesh perspective, buying a PS3 is totally nuts, who has the money to buy a single game for 4500 bucks?...

...You're also forgetting the price and lack of availability of Blu-ray discs, even if a PS3 modchip is released, the pirated games will still cost a lot more than 360 ones because of the price of BLU-ray discs
right now, maybe. but, prices will eventually decrease, hopefully. but first there needs to be demand, only then will shops start to bring ripped disks at cheap prices, same goes for Blu-rays and blu-ray players.

And get your facts straight, the PS3 and the XBOX360 are of the same generation, the 360 was an early Microsoft launch, why would Microsoft be releasing a new console just becase Sony was late with theirs?

yes, they maybe of the same generation. but with Wii and PS3 being the NEW thangs, xbox is falling behind. generation doesnt matter that much, always. and companies strive to bring out new products.
but if Microsoft really did announce they wont be releasing anythin new till 2011, than i take back my hope for a new X box by next yr. but buyin whats already new is still good.

But I don't see how it's bad if you buy one now. You don't need to be a millionaire to buy a $200 console.
yeah, maybe not(?) but $200 aint that cheap of a thing either, especially for me being a school-goer gettin ready for O Levels with no source of income.

but most importantly, as ive mentioned my suggestion was not a general advice, as i KNOW there r people like u guys who wanna buy em, n people like our brother who wanna buy an xbox, but i was just providin an alternate viewpoint of the reality. if thats a crime, than im sorry. if it were me, id still buy the PS3. even after hearing from u guys, n aquiring some info and yer POVs (thanks!). but like i said, thats just ME.

They would bring ripped discs now you know...but too bad there aren't any yet. PS3 and the wii are not new, they have both been in the market for 2+ years, and anyone who wants to buy a 360 might consider a PS3, but not a Wii. I know these are your opinions, all I'm trying to say is that what you've been using to form your opinions are wrong. PS3 is not suitable for BD market and gamers will not want a Wii.

And dude, I'm a student as well with no source of income. I paid for my 360. You'll be surprised with how much you can save within a year if you can control your spending. You want to know why I bought a 360? It's because I wanted to play more games. Initially it was a burden at first, but then I saw the real benefits. I bought all multiplatform games for the 360 and got only PS3 exclusives. If I wanted to play them on my PS3, it would've cost me tk50000+. That's more than the price of the console itself.

What you are hoping for is exactly what everyone has been hoping for the last 2 years. They said there would be a modchip for the PS3 by december 08. We are nearing the end of 1st quarter of 09, and the only thing accomplished so far is decrypting the HDD. This is why the PS3 has been voted as the most secure consumer product. Even the US air force bought them.

Oh and one more thing. You shrug off the poor economy as if its nothing. Here in BD we might not be affected much by the recession. But in foreign countries, people are losing their homes everyday. Do you think MS/Sony would risk releasing a $400+ console now?

if u read my posts, i never said about buyin a Wii, i only used it as an example of a new console thats out, infact i said that it wud be preferable to buy a PS3, i even said that i wudnt buy a Wii to begin with.

And dude, I'm a student as well with no source of income. I paid for my 360. You'll be surprised with how much you can save within a year if you can control your spending.
yeah, i do save. only not for buyin consoles. i aint got that much money anyways, but i do save up to buy dvds and anime and what not. im not a gamin-nerd like u guyz, im an anime-freak. so thats where ma money goes, etc.

yer makin it out as if im som1 whose tellin people NOT to buy x box's or that buyin x box's suck. if u read ma posts, i clearly mentioned that there r people who love buyin consoles n games, n people who really wanna buy x box, and they will. and if they have the means they shud.
i was nevr like, dont buy x box, its sucks. i was only providin ma POV, based on ma ideas and situations. nd i did that just in case he was of similar thought. that he might regret buyin an x box 360, depending on the certain various reasons.

u guys seem to blow things out of proportion, as if im some sorta tyrant trying to either re-write history or throw my own ideas onto u guys. clearly NOT, and i made sure u guys get that, a hundred times, in my posts. and to still try to make an argument out of this is totally ludacris. as im not the 1 who wants to continue an argument as i simply HAVE no argument. i was only presenting MY pov in this matter, i clearly mentioned that in ALL of my posts. there r always two sides of a coin, my friend. similarly there r many ways of lookin at things, be it xbox and be it ps3.

dude seriously...you said its your POV just to cover your own . And kept on repeating it over and over again. You called the 360 ancient, and now you say you aren't doing so. I am not trying to insult you, but dude you made up you're POV's. I can link to sources for all of my claims, and I know you can't.

And maybe if I hadn't said this, mr_08 might've believed you. Its his decision and he needs to know both sides of the story.
