Firefox eclipses IE6 in web share, threatens IE7

Firefox 3 has become the first non-Microsoft web browser to overtake Internet Explorer 6 in market share, according to new data from StatCounter. The open source browser climbed to 24 percent of users in February while IE6 dipped to just over 22.6 percent, making Firefox the second most popular browser by individual version. Although Internet Explorer 7 still leads with 40.8 percent, the Firefox increase narrows the gap as Microsoft's browser has remained largely flat since at least July. The combined shares for each platform, regardless of version, also show Microsoft having ultimately lost share over time. Mozilla's browser has moved from from 25.5 percent in July to about 28.1 percent last month, while Internet Explorer has steadily dropped from 68.4 percent to 62.1 percent. The study points to many users opting to use Firefox or an alternative browser rather than opting for IE7; Microsoft's client is also limited to Windows while Firefox is also available on Mac and Linux platforms.

Other, less common browsers have also made slight gains but are relatively small in comparison. Opera 9 leads the smaller browsers and now has about 1.9 percent share, while Safari 3 is at 1.6 percent.

WTF? =S. This means IE had more users than FF all this time? =S. Sad. =\\.

    FF ftw! =D

lol I didn't even know IE6 was still a contender in the industry. Couldn't it also be that people are switching to IE7 and hence IE6 losing its market share?

    আমাদের এইখানে একটা কথা প্রচলিত আছে; সেইটা হল "যেই বনে বাঘ নাই সেই বনে ফেউচ্চা রাজা" Matter of fact I do not know what is ফেউচ্চা ?

I have been using firefox since 1.5 i think.

never went back to IE just because of the following things:
    - TabMixPlus
    - AdBlockPlus
    - Better Cache management
    - Spell checker

After using firefox all these years, I can say one thing for sure..
the day IE supports TMP+ABP and cache behavior like Firefox,
    i'm ditching firefox INSTANTLY.

at the very core, firefox is nothing but a memory hog.
i'm really pissed off at firefox for this.

also, ever tried to drag drop in firefox bookmark menu?
it's one of the most lousy drag drop behavior.

i really cant fathom how a program written in C++
    can be this much inefficient.
many behaviors of FF is so close to java applications :/

anyways, even though i dont use chrome yet,
it seems chrome has already got the "speed" of IE.
just waiting for the features of FF.
The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power.
