bloody power supplies in Bangladesh

Recently my brothers pc, which is my old core i5 setup completely died, I suspect PSU burnt the entire PC, but there is no certainty, it could be just electricity problems. I stupidly didn't put a UPS in that PC, grave mistake. PSU was thermaltek TR2 S 500w series. Thought it's a great psu but apparently it's not, bloody one is in PSU tier list 'do not buy' section I just noticed.



Welp, most of the fudges they sell in Bangladesh as power supplies are in crappy section. So just a remainder, don't go cheap on PSU coz BD psus are still uber crap coming out of bulls, check PSU tier list on linustechtips or read jonhy guru reviews, and USE UPS.


off topic anybody knows good cost effective ~500w psu in Bangladesh with 100% certainty it's not secretly crap? edit: seems like even season s12 m12 series on Tier C of psu tier list... SAD!

Exactly!

Rule of thumb when purchasing a PC, never skimp on the PSU even if it means getting slightly less ideal components that provide less performance. Unless you are willing to replace the whole thing if anything goes South. Because your PSU is in charge of providing power to the components 24/7.

Cleaner power means more longevity of the internal components, more life out of the PC at the end of the day.

Well I've been running a Coolermaster V750 for nearly 2 years now on my GTX 1070 + i7 8700k system. Upgraded also from a failing TR2 500W (on a GTX 970 + i5 6500 system), which I was still able to replace under warranty and then sell it off immediately. Don't know if you can find a 500W version of it in BD, but I think there are some good Antec PSUs that are available in the market. You can also get Bitfenix ones from Startech

As far as I can tell, most 80+ gold psus really hold up to that certification while platinum and titanium are usually out of reach for most ppl

It doesn't have to be Platinum or Titanium, those are efficiency criteria. If you are buying a good 550-600w unit, it can power most systems with a single card. Of course a more efficient PSU helps saving bills if you are running 24/7.

Likewise the unit matters more here than the numbers really, there are really good 400w units that cost more than 600w knockoffs and vice versa.

thats the thing no psu in BD is in good psu tier list, except CM v-series, and they are bit more expensive than others obviously.

other series available in Bangladesh- psu tier list's C tier and B tier. Thermaltek's that are available in Bangladesh, psu tier list D tier, AVOID THEM.
I doubt i will buy thermaltek ever again, they used be the best but now most of their sales are bad.

while I agree with you on the fact that raw wattage can never be an indicator of psu quality (newbies r almost always misled by this thing alone), what I wanted to shed light on is the fact that 80+ bronze/silver/gold etc certification can be used as a precursor to quality of components used for the psu. Higher quality components always have greater efficiency. Knockoffs almost never have any kind of certification or they're flat out lying on their prints.

Again, this can be used as one form of quality assessment, however, one should never base their judgement on 80+ cert alone, always read user reviews, reviews from independent testing sites, youtube, resources r aplenty and as @furiousTaher bro has been repeatedly referring to, the psu tier list cuz they have been tried and tested.

anyways... I always remember UCC tried to steal more money out of me for phenom x4 many years ago. AMD dropped phenom 2 x4's and x6's prices heavily in ~2012, I went to UCC and they thought I am dumb and gave me a older price list for phenom, I asked them twice where is the price drop? later I called a friend for double checking UCC said hey there is a slight price drop on phenom. I just said no and went to ask startech, they said phenom x4's prices have been dropped from 12.5k to 9k ish.

its good but bit too expensive... i wanted ~5k budget... i think you cant find good psu in Bangladesh below 6.5-7k

ryzen pc with 2070 2080 requires at least 460w, outervision recommends 750w psu for some mysterious reason, strange. usually outervision recommended 550 for a setup that 'requires' 470w. now i guess even they realized psu needs margins

you don't need to follow a tire just go for a gold or bronze certified psu and it will serve you well . on another note jhonny guru forum even suggested to avoid the linustechtips psu list as most of the psu's on the list are not tested and totally based on biased assumptions

You are talking about the series of psus which is atleast 6years of old or even more and no wonder why you are so exaggerated .I assume you don't follow the present market situation. If i recall correctly the gigabyte psu used to be sold with fake certification which wasn't even 80+ white certified , present situation of market is totally different because unlike the past years we have some really good psus on the market which truly offers the accurate efficiency and even the power consumption have become pretty lower . you really don't need a titanium level of psu just to run your pc (unless you are a liquid cooler , sli guy)

can you tell me one single model right now in the market which have falsely advertised and selling refurbished products? yes computer source used to sell refurbished corsair products years ago but now the scene is pretty much crystal clear and other than (A quality product in western and D quality product in asian market argument) i find most of the psus fairly good to run for common useage . if you are so skeptical then just order some evga unite from backbackbang and be happy with it but atleast appreciate the change what the bd market have come through over the past few years and consumers are more concerned than before in making purchase decision.
