Thread: CPU cooler suggestion.

  1. #1

    Default CPU cooler suggestion.

I need a new cpu cooler for 9900k/upcoming zen 2. The cpu will be oc'd too (as much the as cooler allows it).

I prefer the air cooling route but if nothing else is available will consider aio/clc.

Please suggest a cooler with price and shop name.

    Budget max 12k bdt.

case phanteks p400 (160 mm cpu cooler height).

    Thanks.

NZXT KRAKEN X52 is one of my most favorite choice even it has many good reviews , if you can extend your budget a bit more you can easily go for it

I had trouble maintaining good thermals while overclocking the Core i9 9900K at 5.15 (5150 MHz) using a Kraken X72 360mm Radiator AIO. If you are fully focused on getting the Core i9 9900K, don't cheap out on it's cooler.

The Bangla version of this PC build video can be found here:

You'll have to click on "Watch on YouTube" to view the videos.

I was seeing near 81 degrees Celsius at 5.15 GHz in just Cinebench R15.

With that said, you probably can get away with 5.0 GHz on a good AIO.

R1 universal and frio extreme won't fit in my case. I am not particularly fond of aio but it seems like that is probably the only option.

I will decide which cpu to go for after zen 2 release (current cpu is a 8600k- i am new to overclocking, so it is kind of like a test setup).

With new cpu I will get new ram, mobo (in case of zen 2) and new psu-so yeah budget is a bit of a problem (if I have to get a new casing it will also add extra cost). All the aio mentioned here are pretty expensive (makes me reconsider buying the 9900k given its heat output). How about this one- corsair H110i v2, 12k at smart technologies.

I am also considering getting the NH-D15S (will fit my case barely) through backpack (will cost about 10k) or the Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT. What about this two cooler?

Forgot to mention something-p400 does not have very good airflow and I do not have a/c in my room. So yeah 9900k might not going to happen.

Nah man, too costly (just because I am considering a 9900k dose not mean I have unlimited budget.)

if this is for casual use even for some mild work you don't really need to overclock the i9 right now. It's stock is more than enough for 2 years at least imo

The only work I do with my pc is gaming and running autocad and some engineering design software. ( will use some rendering software for 3d model in future but nothing too heavy)

Right now I do not know if going for a 9900k is even necessary (except to get a more consistent min fps in games where 8600k struggle a bit and for some future proofing)

8600k is still heavy enough to do all the things you want for 3 more years and the way games are getting developed even it is still fine to run on quad cores i really don't think you need your cpu upgrade

hmm. I might do that and wait for zen 2. So which cooler can you suggest for oc 8600k and future zen 2 (if ces 2019 was any indicator)? (since i believe i do not need too expensive cooler for that cpu)

Ultimately we know nothing about performance or power draw figures for Zen 2 yet. But we know that unlike Zen 1 which used low power fab (best suited for low clock rate mobile chips) Zen 2 might (with a pinch of rumour) use an high power (and not to mention expensive) fab. So Zen 2 might reach nearly or match Intel's 5 GHz clock threshold. So I wouldn't bet on that Zen 2 wouldn't need a beefier cooler.

Well the eng. sample shown at ces 2019 was running on par with a 9900k at low power level. Granted nothing is certain and it is likely the power draw will be close, I just thought if i can get a cooler now for my 8600k, it will also work on zen 2.

I need a cooler to oc my 8600k right now.

Yep. Half the value of Noctua coolers are for their fans anyway.

But wouldn't bringing by a relative better? But I'm assuming you have Backpack discount/credit or sth.

kono discount nai. backpack onek costly kintu relative to nai. I should have researched more before getting this case (p400) though-terrible airflow and so much physical restrictions against cooler and radiator position.

Does anyone know if ucc/msi allows removal of cooler from gpu for cleaning and tim application or even for custom cooling without voiding warranty?
