Resident Evil 2
Developer: Capcom R&D Division 1
Publisher: Capcom
Release date: 25 January, 2019
This remake of the original RE2 really looks promising. From wikipedia: "Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the original Resident Evil 2 released in 1998. Unlike the original, which uses tank controls and fixed camera angles, the remake features "over-the-shoulder" third person shooter gameplay similar to Resident Evil 4"
Here's some benchmarks with my 980 Ti with settings that can handle 60 FPS:
Extended benchmark, most parts of the game:
Pros:
+Better graphics.
+Better gameplay.
+Some story elements improved, voice acting is better, animations are great.
+Some RE 1.5 elements are brought back.
Cons(Minor):
-Spiders are cut from the game. Instead of improving it like RE1 Remake, they removed spiders. Spiders could be used for getting poisoned as well [missed opportunity].
-Crows are removed too. Crows were the first thing you see in the opening opening cutscene of Leon and they are removed. They could be in street section at least.
-Moth removed as well. Maybe it's understandable since there was only 1 moth.
-Naked zombies removed for some reason.
-Evolved Lickers are removed like what the hell. All they needed to do was add claws and change the texture.
-Ben's role in the REmake2 is almost non existent.
Cons (Major):
-No A and B scenarios. The 2nd run is basically the same apart from the starting position.
-There is no proper street section for Leon's campaign at all. Only Claire get's a street section.
-Again related to street section, 2nd Run protagonist comes to police station through other route. This could have been used as a extended street section like the original and thus Leon could get a street section. But the game just skips to police station, which is a big letdown.
-Lack of story consistency among the two protagonists campaign:
Spoiler start:
Annette Birkin dies on 1st 2nd and then she is still alive on 2nd run's campaign with the other protagonist and dies again. Like what the ¤¤¤¤? 2nd run behaves like the other protagonist's story happened alongside the 2nd run protagonist. So she should be either dead or should ahve been found dead on 1st run if she dies on 2nd run.
Same puzzles from 1st run occurs in 2nd run. Again if the statue is opened by medallions and clock tower is fixed, it can't magically undo itself. They could just add a different item required to open the statue and so on.
G1, G2, G3 boss battles are in same location as if it's being repeated. Even the environment damage from 1st run doesn't carry over.
Also since there are no A and B scenarios, Leon doesn't even meet Sherry in police station at all. This sucks.
Spoiler end.
Technical issues:
-No support for anything other than 16:9 aspect ratio. 21:9 works on gameplay but even realtime cutscenes are pillarboxed. 32:9 and 48:9 are broken and unplayable. 16:10 and 4:3 are letterboxed too even though RE6 had proper support for those. 4:3 and 16:10 was fixed by the fans but the latest update broke it.
-No option to turn off vignette in game. Vignette has two issues: It makes 21:9 almost useless [and completely makes 32:9 useless] and secondly it makes the whole game too dark and washed out. Yeah the vignette somehow makes the image look more washed out than the game without it [removed by fans]. It just looks bad and there should have been an option to toggle it off.
-Distant zombies animate at like 10 fps. There should have been an option to change that. It looks atrocious.
Useful fixes by people:
Ultrawide, multimonitor fix
Low framerate zombie animation fix
