I need some help
I have a P5K-VM motherboad
It has 4 DIMM's
I have 512+512 on the first 2 memory modules and 1GB in the 1 of the 2 other Modules
Now i want to buy a 2 GB RAM and install it in the other
Is that possible?![]()

lol thats a uber strange.....i think probably...but mone hoi other prob hobe..airokom tou boshai na keu. i think mazhar vai neon vai will be more specific
yes u can add 2gb more (800/667 bus speed)
u can add up to 8gb with 2gb in every slot
but u may face one problem .. ur total memory now is 2gb ... if u add 2gb more then u will get 4gb
but total memory of 4GB capacity or more hoile xp 32 bit may only recognize less than 4 gb or 3gb
so u may get the blue screen with garbage value
but u can add 4gb memory but actually u can use less than 4gb
so 64 bit is recommended for >=4gb
hope i m not wrong :S
Try this :
slot 1 2gb
slot 2 512mb
slot 3 1gb
Slot 4 512mb.
In case of stability problem if possible increase dram volt +0.01v or set dram volt 1.9v manually.
yes u can, but in some rare cases you may need to adjust your CAS latencies manually, and also TRFC and drive strength. Increasing DRAM volt will help aswell, buit not more than 1.95V since it puts a strain on the PLL and memory power regulator with high volts and 4 sticks populated. can you show a screenshot of your bios? or link me to a review?
but generally, you will be fine. install the 2GB on the first slot, and 1GB on the second. then populate the 3rd and 4th slot with the 512 sticks. alternatively you can follow what murrad said. it should work
and about 32bit/64bit, youl be fine with 32bit. it will only recognise 3.25GB or so (depending on how many extra pci cards etc youre running) but the 64bit OS takes extra space anyway (~400MB roughly) so the extra memory resource gets cancelled out. Do keep in mind that Vista 64bit is faster than the 32bit though in quite a few applications
best of luck
If you use 32bit OS then using only 2gb+1gb total 3gb will be best setup.
OOO
thank u all
and pollob bhai yeah it shows GARBAGE VALUE
ok i will do
512+512||1GB+1GB
OK?![]()
Yes Sam vai, read ur MB manual, and set them on proper dual channel config.

If your motherboard asks you to populate slot 1 and 2 for dual channel bandwidth, do 512+512|1GB+1GB in slot 1,2,3 and 4.
If your motherboard asks you to populate slot 1 and 3 for dual channel bandwidth, do 512+1GB|512+1GB in slot 1,2,3 and 4
and while its better in your case to get a 1GB stick since you will have dual channel memory(or should), i wont agree with the fact that 4GB is not recommended for 32bit windows. granted you will only see and use 3.25gb, you know you can always either upgrade to vista 64 or just use the extra 250mb for no good reason![]()
The Manual says-
The first DUAL CONFIG-
DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DIMM_B1 DIMMB2
populated------------- populated
THE SECOND DUAL CONFIG-
DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DIMM_B1 DIMMB2
ALL POPULATED
So I should do
DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DIMM_B1 DIMMB2
512MB 1GB 512MB 1GB
YES???![]()
see what the manual says for TWO sticks...that should help more. not 4 sticks
in any case, try both configurations and run cpu-z or sth. it should tell u
MANUAL SAYs The dual config is 1 and 3 slot
so i should use the config num.2 of yours![]()
All dual channel motherboard has two ram channel. Dual channel dram works as hdd raid 0. first pair of ram slot is channel 0 and second pair of dram slot is channel 1 . dual channel is a raid0 of channel0+channel1.
Two slot but dual channel supported motherboard has channel0 _bank1 slot and channel1_bank1 slot or channel0_bank2 slot and channel1_bank2 slot.
The dual channel setup for any four slot intel chip motherboard is channnel 0_bank1+channel 1_bank1 or channnel 0_bank2+channel 1_bank2. That is slot1+slot3 or slot2+slot4 and for all four slot ram same size of ram in slot1+slot3 and same size of ram in slot2+slot4 .
As far as i know there is not a single motherboard (asus, msi, gigabyte, foxconn) available that has four slot and support dual channel on slot 1+2 or 3+4. * if avilabale please correct me.
@Mazhar He said that the motherboard has four slot . Ur first setup will show dual channel mode but will run as intel flex memory technology(same as 2 different size hdd raid) . On boot screen and cpuz it will show dual channel +something like asc..(mone nai)
We all know that larger memory should to installed before the smaller one .
so your second setup should be 1gb+512mb ll 1gb+512mb.
finally cpuz and ram benchmark will tell u the truth.

Yeah actually, install the larger memory first. based on a personal experience i havent really ever noticed a difference but go ahead and do 1GB+512|1GB+512, and in case of any problems just follow what i said in my first post, you should be fine
will i get A LITTLE decrease or increase in games and performance?![]()
as long as dual channel is working fine, you should be good
