    1. You should by Windows 8 Pro if you want to upgrade from windows 7. If you want to fresh installation(Format c drive) of Windows 8 go for Enterprise. Enterprise does not support upgrade thats why you need to install it fresh.
    2. If you format(Fresh installation) the C Drive all data will be erased. You should back up your files.
    3. If upgrade NO, Fresh installation then YES.
    4. Windows 8 lacks supports for older software. Some strange weird problems can also appear.

i don't know for sure. But technically u can't downgrade windows. For this u have to perform a new setup. This will cost extra gb usage. And to perform a windows 7 setup u need atleast 15gp space. So win 8 has extra feature. So make sure u have at least 20gb space.

Windows 8 Pro. If you don't know what Enterprise edition adds, you most probably won't be needing it.

If you upgrade, your files and program specific settings will not be affected. You shouldn't 'move' your files but you definitely should make a backup of personal files (either manually or by the built-in backup application in Windows), just in case things go south. Considering the fact that it is a 80GB partition, your backup file size should be pretty small, less than 30GB perhaps (just a wild guess, don't take it seriously).

If you are upgrading, then most apps will work just fine. However, it is recommended to uninstall your drivers before upgrading and re-install them after upgrading to avoid complications. Some apps might not work though, but that's very uncommon. If you do a fresh install, then you will have to install everything again.

There are some things you should be aware of, not necessarily problems.

    • If upgrade does not work, you can manually do something similar. There are third party tools like Lapllink PCmover that can capture applications along with their respective supporting files and registry values and can unpack them in another OS. You can use this to capture all the apps excluding drivers from your current OS, do a fresh install of the target OS and then unpack them in your target OS. This works both ways, so you can jump back from Windows 8 to Windows 7 in the same way.

    • I strongly recommend that you create a disk image of your system partition before continuing. There are third party tools (some are free for non-commercial use) that can create a complete image of your system partition that you can recover at any time. Even if your computer becomes unusable, you can still recover your old OS just the way it was. So, after switching over to Windows 8, if you decide to roll back, you can simply recover the image and you're good to go.

I'm not aware of any such thing, I would recommend googling. However, I think Windows does not allow downgrading (just my personal opinion, not necessarily correct). If this is the case, follow the instructions provided in the previous section.

only one word-Don't Upgrae. windows 8 has so much problems you would want to tear apart yours hairs after installation. and you'll miss windows aero, need .net framework 3.5 to install again etc.
My probable next build: Qisan MagicForce 68 (Outemu switch) / Teamwolf Zhuque+ 87 TKL (Outemu) / Monoprice Select series full size (Outemu/Gateron) / Drevo Gramr 84 TKL (Outemu) • Logitech G102 Prodigy • Deepcool Dukase V3 / Thermaltake Versa U21 • Superlux HD 681 • Creative Sound Blaster E1 • LG 22MP68VQ • SteelSeries QcK • Generic executive chair • others TBA

djrock please don't bother me. You are in my ignore list so I don't have to see literal poop.
